Lenses / prime focal length choices
« on: August 27, 2013, 11:20:03 AM »
I'm looking to get a few primes, and wondered if others could provide some info on why they chose the focal lengths they own.

For example, I'm considering the two following combinations:  24, 50, 135   or    35, 85.

Anyone with preferences of one of these combinations over the other? (I'm less interested in specific lenses (E.g. 24 f/1.4 vs. 24 f/2.8 IS), but the focal lengths themselves.

I'm shotting with a 5d3, and mostly interested in the primes for portraiture and events.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Underwater Cameras
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:53:25 AM »
(Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure which area it should go).

I've got a trip to Jamaica coming up in a few months and was looking into underwater options to play around with. This isn't something particularly serious for me, so I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on it (so underwater housings for my 5d3 are out, even rentals are ~$600 for a week).

Does anyone have recommendations for underwater cameras on the cheap side (~$300)

Ideally, I would prefer the following:

- Manual exposure mode (I could also live with Av+exposure compensation)
- RAW support
- 24mm (FF equivalent) on the wide end of the lens

Don't really care if it's Canon or not (the D20 *seems* to shoot raw, but doesn't look like it has manual exposure, and is 28mm on the wide end).

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5d3 and FoCal errors
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:58:49 PM »
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I recently purchased the FoCal software to help with autofocus adjustments and am running into an error (and not getting any responses trying to use their support). I'm hoping someone else on this forum has run into a similar problem and might have a solution (or ideas to try).

When running the MSC test the program is giving me the following error:

`A failure occured trying to focus. The reported error is: DoPhaseDetectAF: Action timeout'

Exposure on the target is ~1/25 f/2.8 iso 100 and when depressing the shutter button the camera is able to acquire focus quickly without problem.
