Ultra long daytime exposures - 5D mkiii

Thanks Pedro and Raddy.  Yeah they ain't cheap those filters are they?  Still, it'd be worth it to get the best filter given the amount I've already invested in good IQ with the 5D3 & 16-35mm.  It just doesn't make sense to put a crappy filter in front of good glass.  Will save my pennies.

@Schruminator - nice shot.  Something about these long exposures that just brings gorgeous colour & contrast.

I was able to track down an 82mm ND110 for my 16-35mm f/2.8L II from www.2filter.com.  The website seems a bit sketchy, but I had no issues (other than the fact that they sent me a Scheider optics filter instead of the advertised "B+W" filter).  Below are some shots I took this weekend with my 24-105 using the B+W ND110.  The first is an 88 second exposure (before the sun went down).  The second is a 4 minute exposure

I believe that B&W is produced by Schneider. When I got my slim UV filter for my 16-35 II it came with a plastic protector which had the name Schneider optics on it, but the name on the filter itself said B&W.

Ryan, the photos look great. I love how the long exposure basically eliminates traffic (well, besides the hint of a taillight or two I see in the second one). It's definitely given me some ideas once I get some free time and good weather! Nice pics

Nice shots, Ryan.  I know a lot of long exposure shots tend to have a colour cast, but I kind of enjoy it - assuming it fits the scene as it does here.  Long exposures and colour casts both tend to sit well with sunsets.

I found that my B&W ND1000 gave a brown warm cast whereas my Dorr ND1000 gives a neutral to slightly blue cast...  Dorr also do 82mm filters (I'm in the UK)

Ryan, my first thought is: where are all the abandoned cars on the highway fleeing Atlanta?  For those of you not familiar with The Walking Dead, do yourself a favor and watch it.  Great cinematic style, good effects and gives an excellent feeling of a post-apocalyptic world.

Anyway, back on topic, great shots.  I have wanted to get some high ND filters for a while and experiment.  This thread might cause me to finally take the plunge.
