Others questioned the same thing when Adorama did it via eBay for $2749.00 USD. That's when I got mine and it came new in box, serial numbers matched, no light leak issue and I've been shooting with it for almost a month now and absolutely love it.

I don't know why dealers are doing it via eBay, but as long as its not Gray market and a reputable dealer, I say go for it for those that want to.

I guess eBay is the place to help those Canon authorized dealers to sell the 5D3 without "official" promotion.  Since it's not an official promotion for 5D3, Canon cannot complaint to those authorized dealers selling 5D3 cheap.

Well if you can afford it now, get it now, cuz $2900 is still a good price...but equally true is that this camera will eventually settle a bit lower around $2750, cuz firesales like this months after debut suggests there are market forces at work. No one gives away good stuff for no good reason.

If only they did this with 1DX on firesale ($5250) I'll opt for a second flagship body and switch lenses less often... dreaming is always good.

After the BeachCam 5D3 popped up for $2700 a month ago or so I called them. I said "Hey, I have a question about a product you are selling on eba---" He interupted "The 5D Mark III?" He said they had been getting calls about it all morning. All he would say is that they Canon gave them a discount on the order and it was a special deal.

I dunno what that means, or how the relationship between Canon and Authorized Dealers works exactly but that's what they told me.

So I order, and received one.

I find it peculiar that Beach Camera would sell it for less on Ebay where they have to pay a fee to Ebay, than there own website. Its doesn't make sense to me. When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

It's cheaper on ebay than their website because. Ebay likes to have promotions for their buyers to lower their price to get more people to shop on ebay. Just like their daily deals. The retailers don't lose anything, ebay takes care of it.

Yup... this is the last ever after adorama, beach cam...missed the boat... there will never be another one ever again... it is all over... Ok...couldn't resist.

Wait a few weeks and yet another reseller will be selling it for about that price... and for those who bought it at full price, just hope they don't sell it any lower than that!

I have a friend working at EBay and he told me that Deal of the Day is actually sponsored by EBay to promote its online auction site. So, in this case Ebay is paying BeachCamera whatever they would make at that regular price and that is how BeachCamera is  able to sell it at discounted price.

Can I sell your friend a bridge?

I think these sales actually do more to support a higher price on this camera than most of you sitting on the fence are going to want to hear. If adorama blows out 600-700 of them (at least I sort of remember that being the final tally) then beach blows out 120 more at $2900, I'd say your probably looking at pricing resting north of 3000 for the foreseeable future.

Does anyone know the cheapest, Canadian price yet(non-grey)? I have seen both these deals go buy, but no shipping to Canada!

Without a tacit nod from Canon, authorized dealers like these can't undercut market prices even on ebay...even for a short duration...many luxury products have clear rules on this sort of undercutting... therein lies the problem. Canon implicitly (wink and a nod) is ok with the prices being pegged down...probably due to market forces.

Price will go up and down, and you will have other distributors have firesales, but expect the price to trend  south in fits and starts.

Set your alarm for 0'dark-thirty Wed AM (10/10/2012.  B&H will be open after their 10-day holiday and they will want their turn at the party.  They might even be back on-line for ordering now.  I am going to check.

Only other thought is wait for Canon to announce a $300 rebate on top of any dealer's best price like they did last December.  I got my 70-200mkII for under $2000 at B&H.  Love it.
