Sigma 35 f/1.4 Available for Preorder

My Zeiss 35 has terrible vignetting at 1.4. That perhaps is the most expensive 35mm.

Lets see how the Sigma competes with that. But I would be more interested in the sharpness at 1.4 than the vignetting problem which can be fixed in PS.

I know what bokeh is, I know and enjoy onions to the dismay of others, but what is onion bokeh?  I know I could google it, but that's too easy.

Ok, I didn't expect you to be *that* lazy :-p ... the Tamron has it, the Canon to a lesser extent: point light sources in the bokeh have rings like you cut an onion in half. Samples:

Prices are going so ridiculous lately. Which lenses am i supposed to get if im an "entry level DSLR photographer" ? Just the kit lens?

You are talking of "entry level *FF* dslr photog" (otherwise there are good aps-c choices)? If it's ff, "entry level" is just a term created in forums and maybe by manufacturer's marketing and only means you can get a current camera body for less than $3000 w/o lenses.

Okay, fine to have a fast third party prime updated....But I'm wating on a 12-24 f2.8 by Canon... A although I am a happy 5D3 camper, wish they would come out with such a lens along with the rumored high MP landscape body! Fall 2013? Early 2014? You've read it here first

A 12-24mm f/2.8? That might come before The Rapture but probably not.

And surely it's there in case Canon (or another manufacturer) decides to modify the upcoming firmware updates or camera bodies so that 3rd party lenses miraculously show strange behaviors :-p

Now, don't give them ideas  (in case they are still honest and aren't doing anything...)

Often 3rd party lenses are known to have issues with new camera bodies, but to be fair even some Canon lenses needed firmware updates to work the the 5d3.

But it might be realistic to say that for Canon (and probably other original manufacturers like Nikon) compatibility with existing 3rd party gear is not on top of their priority list :-p ... which is understandable since "Canon works with Canon" is a good selling point.

Agreed, but even Canon lenses/camera have their own problems in focusing. I was surprised to find my 35mm 1.4L which  worked fine on my 5D2 needing about +10 AFMA on my 5D3

Quite, but do that on hundreds of pictures after returning from a shot? I'm all in favor of the Tamron 24-70 with IS (and stronger onion bokeh) for amateur use since you can get around limitations if shots aren't numerous or critical - but for professional bulk-volume use different rules apply.

Some pros even shoot jpeg-only to save time in post (see parallel thread on this board) since only one end (the profit) justifies the means (processing time).

No, only the keepers that are going to be printed or viewed large.

What does this mean compared the Sigma EX (professional) topline in terms of IQ? Which line produces (slightly) better IQ?

I remember sigma saying they wanted to do away with their EX designation, since it was never a strong correlator with performance anyway
