My thoughts though are: Are we about to see a 50mm 1.4 replacement? If so, might it be a 50mm f/2.8 IS? If it is a 2.8 IS, I don't think it's fast enough for most users of this lens.
No, because they already have a cheap 40mm f/2.8, so a 50mm f/2,8 would be craziness.
The only real question is whether the 50mm IS will be f/1.8 or f/1.4.
