6D vs 5Dii - The End of an Era?

I would suspect with the 6D certain economies have been made, and that the build quality at best would be no more than that of the 5DII.

How about no better than a Rebel? For my money, the 5DmkII is about as solid as it gets. Yeah, I suppose I could move up to a 1Dx model, but then we're comparing apples to oranges. The 5D's/6D's are more at the FF prosumer market level. I stand by my earlier assessment: For what I'm doing, it's a tank. I'm just worried that the 6D isn't going to hold up as such.

The 5D MK II is indeed going away.  Canon is not going to keep making them at the price they are selling for, and is likely just selling down slow moving inventory.
I expect the price to rise after most are gone, just as it did with the 5D Classis.  There will always be some who want another new 5D MK II and will be willing to pay top dollar for it.
