Here's another selfie taken with the 6D's remote functionality that I used as a lead in to a recent article:

Really love my 6D.  I find a huge difference processing images from the 6D as compared with the 5DII

Glad to hear that!  Between using the camera, and editing...my right hand gets cramps!

Hi I'm back.  I was told everything was within spec and all they did was load new firmware in the 300 2.8 II.  Could be psychological, but no matter, I will now brag I have one of the sharpest 300's around and do my best to capture shots that do it credit.  I haven't had much time to play but got some low light ISO 12800 shots and some evening shots at ISO 1200.  Here's a couple samples with the 6D 300 X2 III.

Jack - I wish you the best of luck.  Did they have your camera body, too?  I'm wondering if they tuned the lens to your body for you.

I used the Wi-Fi functionality for macro work for the first time.  With a still subject, it is a very cool.  You aren't touching the camera at all, so no vibration, and being able to see real time adjustment to lighting is very cool.

Thanks guys.  As stated before, I try my best but have lots to learn.  I'm so thrilled to hopefully have a few years ahead of me with such great gear.  Boy capturing fast BIF is a major challenge with that 300 X2.

Dustin, I sent the 2 extenders, camera, and the 300 but didn't send the 24-70 F4 as I figured it was good compared to what I saw of the more highly rated version.  They did test them out together and I'd like to believe tweaked some things but all I learned was the upgrade to the 300 firmware.  BTW, it's shameful how some have knocked the WiFi, calling it a joke when it is exceedingly useful in the right hands.  I'm in the process of constructing a treepod and hope to move back from my sensitive subjects and shoot remotely.

For security and to reduce the hassle I used Don's Photo return service and that was great except the Canon tech would not speak to me directly and there was some mis-translation of my concerns.  Isn't that how it always goes!

Regardless, I will be happy and forget the fussing and hopefully get shots that are worth posting and warm the hearts of those that view them.  I guess that's what it's all about, right?  I'm also thrilled to be able to look at shots and learn what these critters are called and to carefully view their unique characteristics.

My Nikon camera/lenses that got me back into photography were due to my wife's persistence and she fully supported my switch to Canon, but what really made this feasible was inheritance that my dear mother left me.  She's the one who instilled in me my love for God's creation and I know she'd be happy (although shocked at the cost) with my purchase.

Jack, glad to hear your gear is back and working well!  Like you, my Mom inspired me to do photography, since she has done it all her life, and professionally for over 40 years!  I'm sorry for your loss.  Mine is still alive and kicking, sometimes nagging, always loving!  She does not share my fascination with gear, nor is she adept with DSLR's...but she did shoot about 250,000 images with a couple of Pentax 120 format film cameras, and a few other medium format bodies.  That's a lot of film!

Thanks carlTN,

That is indeed amazing about your mother.  Both my mother, and father desceased some 10 years now, were outdoors nature lovers, birds, animals, rocks, hiking, boating - it was every childs dream.  In my early teens I did taxidermy and later gravitated away from shooting and eventually took up photography with film way back.  But family life with 4 kids is demanding and it's just now that the last one is leaving home and I've got this wonderful gear!

My father loved to build but was never formally trained.  Never the less he did an awful lot and gave me the desire to create stuff out of whatever materials are available.  I like to machine and weld and create mechanical things like this treepod.  Thirty years ago I dreamed of a remote release and a tree mount camera and now that it's finally possible for me, it's proving to be tricky.  I used to climb like a monkey but those days are over so I'm not sure how high I'll get.  I don't want to be a fatality!

That's a very nice shot for 2x Tele wide open.  I would call that a very usable result under the circumstance.   That's a lens I think I would like to have, but I couldn't  currently justify it for the type of shooting I typically do.  I wouldn't use it enough (or professionally) right now.  Still, it looks like a treat optically!

Dustin, there are different levels of justification and I'm afraid I fail at some of them.  Of course I don't have a large number of camers/lenses and that helps soothe my conscience.  Also I haven't splurged on too many things in my life so that also helped with the rationalization. :)

I must say I'm pretty pleased with the 2X.  Last year, with my D5100 and eq. 450 mm I was initially pleased but not thrilled and with the 6D and 300 X1.4 it feels somewhat like a step backwards (doing it over I think I'd skip buying the X1.4).

Right now the novelty is wildlife, with all the birds arriving and nesting, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.  A beaver pond is right in my back yard and it suits me just fine!
