Thanks Seridipidy,

Another vistor, a baby you could hold entirely in two cupped hands.

6D  300 X2 1000th  F9  ISO 1250

How cute! Must be a product of "muskrat love" ;D. Really nice shot.

PS-Captain & Tennille had some great songs.

Thanks guys,

Yes I know those old songs.  :)

Speaking of love, I love sitting there at the pond in warm sunshine watching all the action.  Hard to explain to those not into wildlife!

Here's another.

Thanks Carl.  The images were shot very early morning and the sun was on that hazy looking distant shore.  I exposed for the detail in the shadow and ended up with those washed out hills and mountains in the distance.  I did take multiple exposures but have not yet tried to combine them to get more detail.  I like the shots as they are though.
Thanks also for the reminder to add the data for the shots.
The ones previously posted and this next one were all 6D + 24mm f1.4 II, 1/6 or 1/15 sec at f11, ISO 100

Jack, really enjoying the bird photos.

Also, love the sunflower photo, feels like summer.

Andy, I love those shots and can't wait to get outside my little acreage-home world to acquire some like that.  What wonderful colors.  I'm so busy with projects that I just take breaks by slipping over to my pond for R & R.

That appears to be a very fine lens.  I debated a great deal but finally went with the 24-70 F4 because it had macro as a walk around lens, which is important to me with my nature interests.  I'm hoping to get the next offering from Canon of a really wide lens for landscapes - any thoughts?

Jack, I think your 24-70 F4 on a 6D would have no problem matching or exceeding the IQ of these shots.  They were taken at f11 and your lens may even be sharper there.  The 24 mm is what I had so that is what I used.  It is a nice lens though and I enjoyed taking photos with it on the trip.  Most of the shots were at 1/6 or 1/15 sec so of course I was using a tripod.
I am a beginner and have lots to learn.  I am sure some of the more experienced photographers here would be able to suggest ways I could get even higher IQ with the equipment I have and I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks Andy,

I'm equally a beginner and learning lots both reading and doing.  So far it's been mostly birds and that's largely patience and luck and it doesn't hurt to have the equipment that's capable of delivering.  I'll be foregoing other things in life in order to put more money into lenses in the future since it's now a major pleasure in my life.

Keep posting and commenting on what works and what doesn't.

Here's a shot that presents as too yellow but the willow is kind of yellowy green, maybe not quite so much.  I believe this was an evening shot.  Any thoughts anyone on how to deal with this or is it what it is?

Well it may not be much but it's a first for me!

A hummingbird at the pond shot with my 6D "wildlife" camera.  ;D  Fairly heavy crop maybe 1/10th of the frame.

I'm noticing the birds are more free and easy now that nesting is essentially history.

Thinking this is a baby rubythroated hummingbird based on all the fuzzy feathers??

Thanks Click,

I've been wondering if I'm overdoing the posting of birds to a thread that's supposed to be more generic - Anything shot with a 6D - any comments anyone?  Initially I think 6D supporters wanted to get the feedback out that while the camera had it's shortcomings, they were nothing close to as bad as the early detractors suggested.

I can say that locking focus on that flying hummingbird with all those Spotted Forget-me-nots directly behind was indeed challenging but yesterday my friend had the same frustration with his Nikon D300 shooting with a 70-300.

Can anyone suggest how and why this would improve if I had a 1Dx for example, or even the 5D3 I almost bought, or a 7D2.  I'm asking because a second body is in my sights for next year and it'll be my last because I can't with a clear conscience as an amateur justify such expenditures.

At present in about 4 months of shooting I've confimed that a higher frame rate would be nice for sure and a better AF for catching BIF but otherwise I'm a pretty satisfied customer.  At present I'm 90+% center spot focus with AI for moving birds.  I'd like to hear how others might approach what I'm trying to do, which might include directing me to some previous forum discussions, if you're aware of them.

This shot gave me a chuckle.  It reminded me of my childhood with two of us on a small toboggan hanging on for dear life going down a 30 degree incline to certain death.  This is about 10% of the frame so quality is so so.

Yeah, for me it is turning a little bit into the "Anything birds shot with a 6D by Jack Douglas" forum! Your shots are great though, why not set up a 500px account to showcase them?
