Love this, I've even tried it myself in a Bamboo Forest in Japan, Image sucked, but this is how it's done, another Beautiful Image Dustin, I do enjoy your Images, I have this need to improve my Landscape skills, so I enjoy work from People like yourself that clearly have those Skills.

Hey there. New to register but have been lurking the site for some time now. Thought this'd be a good a reason as any for first post.  Both shots were taken with a 6D that I picked up in May and a 70-200 f/2.8 IS II that I just picked up last week. Officially broke now but no regrets on either one. Not a pro or anything. Just an amateur that's found something that he really likes doing, so go easy on em .... lol

Wasn't much done to the football one in post, and the other was just a bit of the Portraiture plugin in LR.
EOS 6D, EF 24-105mm L f/4.0, EF 70-200mm L f/2.8 IS II, EF 50mm f/1.4, EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 .... and occasionally some imagination.

This kind of shot does present a processing challenge.  The sheer volume of leaves and other details tend to make the images just look busy.  It's also not uncommon to fight harsh lighting.  Part of the reason I went with monochrome on this one is to be able to reduce contrast and overall busyness.

Dustin, I tried a shot similar to yours this past summer.  It does have the harsh lighting but it still works I think.

Just my humble opinion... This could be better if you can try to lead the eyes toward something just like Dustin's.  Use the trees as lines to lead somewhere interesting which in Dustin's case, towards the center.  I hope I've helped you.

I like the nice little sun-star in the shot.  It isn't an easy shot to pull off, and I've got plenty in my catalog that aren't all that impressive!

Here's a new shot with the Rokinon I took a few days ago:

Thank you very much for the compliment Dustin. I was hesitant to post but I assure you that both pieces are getting lots of use.

Are these redwoods? I like the star too. I have a question though: why did you not rotate it by 90 degrees?

Thanks for the replies to my post.  Yes, the trees are redwoods.  I tried to post a couple other photos but they are not uploading for some reason.  I actually posted a different image than I intended and somehow ended up posting an unrotated image.  I will try to post a couple more tomorrow.
I am really enjoying everyone's the posted images and appreciate the feedback.  Here is one from my last camping trip.

One more as tree as subject.  A difficult exposure for me as the tree had been scorched by an old fire an the sky was grey but quite light.  I do have multiple exposures since I was using a tripod but don't know how to combine them yet in a single image to get a natural look.

Hi Andy,

Where did you take that photo? It is the exact same tree that Peter Lik sells as his famous "Tree of Life". I always wondered the location of that tree. I believe someone else published a photo of it before Lik did. Your shot is lovely. :)

Here is Lik's colored version.
