One more as tree as subject.  A difficult exposure for me as the tree had been scorched by an old fire an the sky was grey but quite light.  I do have multiple exposures since I was using a tripod but don't know how to combine them yet in a single image to get a natural look.

Andy, did you shoot this as a RAW or a JPEG image.  If it is a RAW, you have plenty of latitude for lifting those shadows in the trunk.  The 6D has a very strong dynamic range on the shadow end of the spectrum.  If you have access to Lightroom, just pull the shadows slider to the right.

Another tree as subject.

Hi Andy,

Where did you take that photo? It is the exact same tree that Peter Lik sells as his famous "Tree of Life". I always wondered the location of that tree. I believe someone else published a photo of it before Lik did. Your shot is lovely. :)

Here is Lik's colored version.

That's definitely the same tree (the rock to the left is the same, too).  It is an amazing one!

Windsurfer was taken with 6D and 300 F4L.

Lion was taken with 6D and 70-200 F4L (with a 1.4 TC if I remember).

Constructive criticism welcome!

This is my most extreme high ISO torture test to date with the 6D. Grab shot taken on a tour in a research mine in Alaska, wide open at ISO 6400, available light only, with some shadow fill and modest NR in Lightroom 4. Very usable image, not even too bad at 100% (except for DOF issues on faces and slight motion blur). This camera is really opening up new possibilities for me. It would have been even better shot with my new Sigma 35/1.4 or a 24 prime.

Canon 6D, 24-105mm (at 24), 1/15s at ISO 6400, hand-held.

Dustin, I am shooting in both raw and jpeg format and I had Lightroom until I deleted my Adobe account yesterday.  I know I can improve that image a quite a bit with Lightroom but I do have the multiple images to work with and combine at some point. I think Photoshop has the ability to merge photos but I have not yet researched how to do it.
About the other tree. I think it is a Japanese Maple. It is in the Japanese Garden in Portland Oregon. Just an amazing garden with many photo worthy subjects. I imagine the tree is sporting those red leaves right now too. My version was unfortunately, just a snapshot as I did not have my tripod with me that day.

Dustin, I tried a shot similar to yours this past summer.  It does have the harsh lighting but it still works I think.

I like the nice little sun-star in the shot.  It isn't an easy shot to pull off, and I've got plenty in my catalog that aren't all that impressive!

Here's a new shot with the Rokinon I took a few days ago:

I like this one, and the color of the barn is not so extreme as in the other barn image.

Yeah, but you aren't really comparing apples to apples.  The other image you reference was a painterly image that's entire point was to be somewhat surreal.  This image is vivid, to be sure, but accurate of the colors that I captured.

I like all your barns...whether green, blue, aqua or accurate. ;)

Looking forward to it. Here is one I found, but it is not really a photo but one with stars over some buildings. 8)

I somewhat doubt that mine will reach the popularity of the one you posted :)

Thank you.  I am a relative newcomer to doing this kind of shot, but I have a photographer friend named Royce Bair who is somewhat of a master in the genre, so I have absorbed a bit of his vision.
