Good Mono for my EF600 II ?
« on: December 18, 2012, 09:16:38 AM »
Hi all,
I´m very happy with my new EF600 II on my 5D III, but if you stand in front of a tree and wait for a bird to pop his head out of a nest it gets heavy after 10 minutes. And there are time where I won´t take my 3 legged friend with Sachtler Head.
So I´m looking for a Mono and maybe a Head that let me move vertical.

I don´t wanna spend 1000 EUR and it should fit into a suitcase.

What do you have for your big lens ?
Do you use it often or go for your Tripod instead ?
Are you happy with it or anthing you miss ?

Thanks all for your input

I've got an RRS MC-34 and MH-02 Pro head, love them both and they work great.  Plenty of height, plenty strong enough.  I carry it on my belt when hiking, with my 1D X + 600 II slung over my shoulder on a Blackrapid strap.

If you only plan to use with the 600 II, the MH-01 head may be better (the MH-02 allows 90° rotation to mount a camera plate instead of a collared lens on the fly, with the MH-01 you need an allen key to switch orientation).  Either head can have a screw clamp or a lever release, I opted for the screw clamp to aviod the risk of opening the lever clamp while carrying the lens mountd on the monopod resting on my shoulder.

The monopod + head combo fits perfectly in their TQB-64 bag.
EOS 1D X, EOS M, and lots of lenses
