Canonrumors seems to have become a pricewatch site lately. Would love to see less noise about existing cameras and more about what's comming up !

It's just the season, this will all calm down in the new year. I'm also developing something for the sidebar of the site so this stuff isn't in the main blog (unless it's a crazy deal).

I do get a lot of "thank-you's" when people buy through deals.

I have a 5d3 24-70 ii, 70-200 2.8 ii but think the 70-300 could serve as a vacation or travel lens. Anyone thing this deal is too good to pass or there will likely be the same deals later on in 2013?

I also agree. This also should give some hope to those of us who are looking at some of the seemingly ridiculous prices on the latest lenses. If you're willing to wait, there will eventually be some good deals out there.

I've been debating between the 70-300 and the 70-200 f4 is. Now that they are equally priced, it makes the decision that much more difficult. I have shot the 70-200 f4 is and on occasion wished I had more reach, but who doesn't?

If you're going to be using the lens outside, then the 70-300L is a fine choice.  I like it for travel, zoos, etc.  The question is whether or not you can live with a sllightly slower lens at the longer end.

I would go for the 70-300. It is a great lens, not heavy, relatively compact and easy to handle. It is not the best in low light and it won't work with a canon TC so if you wanted extra range you would need to get a Kenko 1.4X or 2.0X TC.

The price of the 7D is also very attractive. Amazing how off prices around the world can be. Here in Asia we often get the tech first, but you guys in the US seem to get some of the best, and earliest, discounts too.

Looks like the deal is dead for the 70-300, but the others still work. Of course the 70-300 was what I wanted.

Yeah, I even had the 70-300 in my cart too, but didnt give up, B&H and Amazon both had it at $1099 this afternoon. As long as one of the 3 has it for $1099, they usually will price match each other. good luck.

Bummer, I thought I was good to go on the 70-300 for $1099 til Jan 5 since B+H had "Offer ends JAN 5 '13".......

Likewise. I saw B&H had the 70-300L for $1099 with a 1/5/13 expiration, so I thought I'd order it tomorrow or the next day. Now, B&H, Adorama and Amazon are all back to $1299--too expensive for my budget. Let's hope Canon offers up a new post-holiday sale that brings it back down.

And BTW, I appreciate CR posting these deals. And the same goes for watchful CR readers who send up a flare when they spot something of mutual interest.

I'd like to add my thanks to CR for its notification of Adorama's price deal on the 70-300L. When I saw the notification, I ordered the lens right away. Personally, I hope CR continues to post items regarding incredible pricing deals such as this past one.

By the way, this is my first post. I've been reading CR for some time and have found a lot of useful advice regarding camera bodies and lenses both in the CR reviews and in the forums. So, my thanks go to both CR and the forum contributors.
