My favourite lens. The close up images are simply stunning. However I also use it as a normal tele lens as well and last April I shot an evening soccer match with it. I think it was the worst combination you could use: a Rebel and a macro lens  ::) Anyway... it did the job and some results turned out nice.

Yes, great pics indeed.

This was my first prime and I was soooo happy with IQ - until it was stolen, that is  :'(

7D + 100L (2 images, stacked)

My 5D Mark III & 50L was recently stolen. So now I'm a man without a Canon Camera.

I too find it works well in portraits, with a much better result handheld than the non IS version. If you want easy comparisons for sharpness with a very easy to see scale, check out www.slrgear.com I love to use it to see where the sweet spot is for different lenses and what to try and avoid.

Nice work everybody, have fun with it!

I like 'industrial grunge' photos. This one is the door of a dilapidated vault in the Rookwood Necropolis in Sydney, Australia.
Hand-held - mid afternoon at about 5m distance. I was experimenting with shallow DoF. The focus is on the handle.
A Camera. Some Lenses. Some accessories. Talent on back-order

Aphids on Honeysuckle - Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
« Reply #24 on: June 21, 2012, 12:51:37 PM »
Tons of Aphids.  Our honeysuckle is still not open, but it will start today.  We have had cold and rain clear into the middle of June, so a sunny day is welcome.
Hummingbirds have been scouring the vine picking aphids off, and have does a really good job, except for this bud, they somehow missed it.
I know you are not supposed to just walk around with a handheld macro lens to shoot tiny creatures using autofocus, but the 100mmL lets me get away with it occasionally, even if the images are not perfect.  The wind was blowing, so this was a bit difficult to get a sharp image, and it was in the shade, so I used a on camera flash rather than setting up a separate flash.
