Driving up to get some shots of Skalkoha Falls in Montana and apparently the road had become impassable(even for my donkey).  So I wandered around looking at the raging creek along side the road on up onto the mountainside where I spotted a single trillium bloom.  Apparently the occupier does not appreciate the value of entertaining guests.  5D MK III  100 f/2.8L Macro  1/200 : f/14 : ISO 400

Great catch! Congrats.

IMHO the occupier did really appreciate the presence of this guest.
Looks like a hearty invitation for dinner. So the bee really couldn't resist. ;)

I was looking up the most popular L primes being sold on BH Photo and Adorama and the lens featured on this thread sells better than the L primes such as 50, 35, 135, 85, 400/5.6, 24, 300/4, 200/2.8, etc etc.

Would you guys care to share why you think it sells that well?

Because it does a lot of things very very well, it doesn't take a huge skill set to get really nice images out of, it is small, light, good value and multi functional.

It doesn't rely on super fast aperture, so it isn't a single use lens, that is, the only difference between a 35mm f1.4 L and a 35mm f2 IS is size and weight, one stop, lack of IS, and $800. It has a unique IS. It makes a superb portrait lens. It makes a really fun and easy to use macro lens with a decent working distance. It is a small and light moderate speed short tele. It fits in a bag easily and weighs next to nothing, compare it to a 135 f2 or a 180 Macro.

What is not to love?
Too often we lose sight of the fact that photography is about capturing light, if we have the ability to take control of that light then we grow exponentially as photographers. More often than not the image is not about lens speed, sensor size, MP's or AF, it is about the light.

One taken recently: Handheld. With a slight breeze. Here is where the 100L shines with it's IS even though the 180mm I had might have been a tad sharper.... but it took too much real estate in my Camera bag.

My 70-200 went down (literally), the strap broke.  So I needed a longer lens, and my 100mm IS Mcro was just sitting there begging to go to the game...

Sharp enough that you can crop in a fair bit and still have awesome resolution:

I don't use it particularly often, but this lens is always a treat to pull out and use:
