Rebates

I've been wanting to buy a 5D3 kit, but unable to do so until the 7th, which is two days after all canon rebates expire. The 5D3 kit was $3499 as of last night on amazon and now lists at $3699. My questions:

1. Based on the past, what does canon typically do in January concerning rebates?

2. Can anyone explain the drastic fluctuation with the 5D3 kit price? In less than a year, I see that it is anywhere from $3499 to $4299. The price elasticity is insane.... but remain hopeful we can see $3499 again, too bad I missed the boat this month.

Btw, I've been a long time reader of this site and love everything about it, I started with canon back when the t2i was released, had a 7D and the holy trinity of 2.8's until it was all stolen in Hawaii (island bottom feeding thieves). Hosing insurance covered the loss, helped supplement the cost of my new truck instead of imaging equipment.

The lack of however led me to buy the 24-70 II when it was on sale for $1999, waiting for a good bottom price point for the 5D3 kit...

Wow, amazon (or Norman camera) just bumped the 5D3 kit price to $3899.
