Do you wait 10 years to buy a car just because the price comes down?  How many people buy a brand new car and then 3 years later, go, "Dang that car company!  That makes me so mad I paid $24,000 instead of $18,000!!"?

No, but buying a used car that is between 3 and 5 years old makes a lot of financial sense.

Yes, so what people should do is do what makes financial sense, and not buy something brand new if they are going to complain about a price drop later.  It's about taking responsibility for your own financial actions and not blaming whoever is selling.  Don't buy it then.

However, the car analogy isn't appropriate. Because there is a mix of people who want/need a new car and people who don't, used cars are even available for those who want them. On the other hand, if there were very few people wanting new cameras at their initial pricing, the prices would go down very fast. [Disclaimer: I am speaking of a hypothetical economic situation here- not wishing that new Canon cameras were avoided by people so that they become cheaper quickly]

I remember when the 5D3 was announced I made a post on CR about how I was excited at the prospect of picking up the 5DII for <2k USD... the "experts" pounced on me with price charts and past trends of similar products stating it wouldn't happen. It did.

These are consumer electronics. Prices change.

I have never heard of the selling company AJ Richies.  Anyone have any experience with them?

Tried to get one, Mr. AJ called (blocked number) and told me the menus are not in English, the build quality is less and I should buy the USA version (with warranty).  After looking at some reviews and the thought of a non-returnable 2nd rate/badly refurb'ed Mk3 I told Mr. AJ to cancel my order.

If anyone gets one, I'd love to know how it worked out.

Perhaps we should all just wait 10 more years, and then we'll be able to rummage through garbage cans and get the 5DIII for free.

Let's not bother talking about how much the price has dropped: as technology progresses, the price of older tech goes down.  All that I was doing was letting people know who wanted to jump on a good price for today's market.  Market conditions will always dictate price, and a year ago $3,500 was the price.  If you don't like how things go out of date, I suggest you find a different world to live in.

I agree on this one, depreciated way, way too quickly.  To think I bought mine in July for $3,500 and 4-5 months later it could have been had for almost $1,000 less.  I don't understand a lot of the posters on here either as money is extremely important to me as well and I sure don't like to see depreciation happen that quick. Had it been over a period of 12-24 months it would not have been so bad, but roughly 30% drop in less than 6 months?  I could have used that $1,000 to buy other gear.  Oh well, I learned my lesson and will adjust my buying pattern on the next body I buy.  Minimum of a year after relaese before I buy the next one. 
Yeah of course technology depreciates, but stop acting so condescending like everyone knew the camera would drop 1/3 of it's price in 7 months.  Show me one other Canon product that has followed a similar price pattern.  There were plenty of polls about when the 5D3 price would drop to $3k and none of them were anywhere close to what ended up happening.  And most were about a drop to $3k, if you had said $2500 people would have laughed at you.

I think most assumed it would be somewhat like the 5D2,  which was pretty much the same price as it was when it was released even a year after it came out.

By the way, I saw this post when active, and the camera available, but decided against it on the following premise:
The refurb camera was on sale, not the refurb kit lens (24-105)
So the total (refurb) kit would cost $ 2240 + $ 935 for the lens (it's not on the refurb site but is available if you call)= $ 3175
On the other hand, the kit costs new $ 3500
That's only $ 325 less for a refurb kit with 90-day warranty, so it didn't really appeal to me
For states with tax, it makes even less sense

If you expense $$$$  gear on a schedule C yet did not claim any internet purchase sales taxes you can almost assure yourself a deeper look by the IRS.

Ditto.  Paying 48 cents on an 8 dollar purchase isn't that bad... paying $180 for a camera/lens kills me.

If this continues, I'm not sure I could easily decide between a new 7D mk2 or a refurb 5D mk3...add the fact that I've sold all my EF-S lenses....
