Canon has Refurbished 5DIII for $2240

I have never heard of the selling company AJ Richies.  Anyone have any experience with them?

What's done is done. What are you going to do, write a letter to Canon? We all know bitching on an online forum is soooo cathartic. I paid full price, not that it's anyone's business but mine. Seems like everything I buy is on sale the next day. BFD.

Do you wait 10 years to buy a car just because the price comes down?  How many people buy a brand new car and then 3 years later, go, "Dang that car company!  That makes me so mad I paid $24,000 instead of $18,000!!"?

No, but buying a used car that is between 3 and 5 years old makes a lot of financial sense.

Sorry, but when you're buying the equipment that most 5D Mark III's owners are, and like myself, who paid $3499, the differential is meaningless.  $2599 vs $3499?  Who cares?  Not only that, I've been using it since early April and I bought it new, not refurbished.  That's 8 months of use of it.  Do you wait 10 years to buy a car just because the price comes down?  How many people buy a brand new car and then 3 years later, go, "Dang that car company!  That makes me so mad I paid $24,000 instead of $18,000!!"?  This is ridiculous.  Feel bad for hungry children in Africa, not people who paid $900 more for a DSLR in April.

I don't need people to feel bad for me that I paid $3499 and $369 for 5d III and grip at launch. I have no regrets enjoying the significant upgrade it provided me over the 5d II.

I feel bad for people who torture themselves about the price and deprive their thirst for better gear. I don't have an endless budget or do photography for a living, but as a part time wedding photographer and for several odd and end jobs I do I want the superior gear.

You get what you pay for, yes canon is a bit steep for early adopters but that's not stopping most of us.

I was happy to sell my 5d II the other day and picked up my second 5dIII on crutchfield for $2999 new and paid no tax and free shipping.

I snagged one of the $2240. Canon called and verified addresses so I guess its a go. I was waitin for
 a sub $2500 price and wow this works. Thanks for the heads up on this deal.

I would agree on the comments regarding pricing. I got my 7D new when it was $1550 a year ago. I saw it on sale a month or so later for $1350. I was a little bummed but what I bought my 7D for was worth every penny. Camera bodies and gear will always go down with time, that will never change. If you decide to wait on the 5D3 or 6D to drop in price they may issue a new camera then. So then what? Do you wait even longer?

Too much stress and wondering for my blood. Buy what you need and be willing to pay the price. If it is a WANT instead of a need, well? If you rush into a purchase you don't NEED, well, you are on your own.

I paid about $5150 for my 5D3 and 24-70 II (purchased together).  It went down in price again a few weeks later during some holiday sales.  I'm fine with it cause I have a badass camera!  I only shoot weddings part time but I'm very happy with my purchase and I love knowing that I have the best camera on the market. 

I love a great deal as much as the next guy but if you're really hurting for that spare cash, you should probably be re-thinking your spending habits.

I don't think I've ever seen a DSLR price tag dropping this fast.

Here's to hoping the 5D3 gets a very short product cycle. I want new sensor tech.

Let's not bother talking about how much the price has dropped: as technology progresses, the price of older tech goes down.  All that I was doing was letting people know who wanted to jump on a good price for today's market.  Market conditions will always dictate price, and a year ago $3,500 was the price.  If you don't like how things go out of date, I suggest you find a different world to live in.

Yes, so what people should do is do what makes financial sense, and not buy something brand new if they are going to complain about a price drop later.  It's about taking responsibility for your own financial actions and not blaming whoever is selling.  Don't buy it then.

I'm not really upset about the price drop, just slightly irritated.  I mean the 5D Mark II was $2800 new and was still selling for $2200 used 3 YEARS LATER.  7D was $1699 new and was maybe a couple hundred less 2 years later. 

No one can deny that the 5D3 pricing patterns are completely different from what Canon has released before, I can't think of any other body that dropped that much that fast. 

Either way there isn't much I can do now, and I don't know that I would have waited even if I had known.  But it still feels a bit crummy to be so blatantly milked for extra cash.

Yeah of course technology depreciates, but stop acting so condescending like everyone knew the camera would drop 1/3 of it's price in 7 months.  Show me one other Canon product that has followed a similar price pattern.  There were plenty of polls about when the 5D3 price would drop to $3k and none of them were anywhere close to what ended up happening.  And most were about a drop to $3k, if you had said $2500 people would have laughed at you.

I think most assumed it would be somewhat like the 5D2,  which was pretty much the same price as it was when it was released even a year after it came out.
