It's just not cricket

So! I have cricket pictures to post! These were taken in 2005 with my Canon Rebel 300D and the 18-55 kit lens. As a company we go to a beach on the west coast of India once a year for a few days. So here are the pictures. Notice we improvised on the stumps. There are no bails. The umpire is from the batting side so as you can imagine there is a lot of argument when a batsman is called out... It is fun!

This one was a great shot. Went for four. As you can see, it was headed in my direction. It missed my right ear by may be may be a foot - I was not watching it sail by... I just heard it go by and saw this picture later - much much later...


This was shot as soon as the batsman attempted to hit the ball. Less than a second later he was out! Caught behind.

you play for 5 days and then it rains/goes dark early and it's declared a draw.

BTW, earlier they played for three days and then rested for a day and then went for another 2 days (or sometimes they would play two days and rest one and then go for the three days). So 6 elapsed days and at the end of it may be no team would win! It, Test Cricket (not these slam-bam-thank-you-advertiser games of today!) was a game that tried your skill, grit, patience, daring and your emotional quotient! I loved it before making money was the motive of sport!

Nope! now it is 5 days straight. Very grueling. The chaps who play test cricket and survive a 5 match series followed (or preceded) by one-day and/or 20-20 games - They are great!
