Where is Canon's X100s?
« on: May 08, 2013, 07:07:58 PM »
Why can't canon issue a smaller body, optical rangefinder, fixed fast lens camera to compete with the
Fuji x100s?  It can't be a technical problem - it's canonet rangefinders were industry leaders.  It's not
a competitive problem with other point and shoot canon cameras.  It could compete at the 1000-1200
price point, decimate Sony's RD100, give buyer's an alternative to Fuji, and compete with camera phones
with a bigger, better image.

Seeing as it is a self-contained system (no changeable lenses to by into, etc) why not just buy the Fuji x100s? Waiting for a Canon when the Fuji is already so good doesn't seem to make sense when having a Canon wouldn't be aided by or improve your current system.

Unless you were asking why Canon isn't making something as good purely out of curiosity.
Canon 5D MkII, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, EF 70-200m f/2.8L IS USM, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, 580EX, LP160, a couple of home made macro & pinhole lenses.

Canon is into low cost mass produced cameras.  This has resulted in companies like Fujifilm making cameras  that are niche models.  Low production rates and high costs.

That's probably a good thing, they are staying in the market place by making cameras that Canon considers to be low volume.  Without them, there would be less choice.

If everyone made cameras that were near identical, things would be boring.
