Plenty of posts on the 7D, how about the 70d
« on: March 07, 2013, 01:31:10 AM »
As much as I would love to have the new 7D II, if it does exist, more than likely it would be out of my price range, by a lot.  I own a 40D and looking for an upgrade and think the 70D might fit the bill.  I have yet to hear much on the expected upgrade to the 60D.  Have I missed something?  Is Canon planning to come out with anything replacing the 60D?

I'm sure a replacement will come along soon for the 60D. Which aspects of the 40d are you not currently satisfied with i.e. IQ, FPS, weight, ISO etc?

Cheers

I agree, the 7DII has so much attention but not the new XXD series. I believe the 70D will have a better sensor for higher ISO capabilities, that's about it. The 60D and 7D are already pretty close in performance, so if they were to make the 70D even closer to the 7DII, that would defeat it's purpose of being the flagship cropped sensor. Regardless, the 60D is an awesome camera for mid to amateur level shooters and I don't see the 70D being any less of that.

I expect the 70D to be a re-heated 7D spec wise.

High ISO is what I  am looking to improve upon.  The "H" setting is 3200 and for some of the theatre pictures the IQ just isn't good enough.  I would also like video.  I am split on my interests.  Some sports, some theatre and I want to get into landscape and architecture, like old barns of Maine.  Ideally 5D III but WAY out of my price range.  Plus the cost of EF lenses, and flash that I would have to buy.

Probably focusing similar to the T4i with emphasis on video. Better high ISO performance, maybe wifi. I'm not in a big hurry to swap out my 60D unless it's something earth shattering but I doubt it

I believe there was at least some speculation that the next XXD would be moved upmarket where the 50D was as opposed to what some consider the 60D to be now - more of a super rebel.  I believe this is based more on build quality than performance, but I'm not sure.

Regardless, this may or may not be good for you.  Upmarket may mean a product that meets your expectations coming from a 40D, but it may also mean a higher price than the 60D.

The next XXD is on my radar, so I'm hoping the price doesn't shift too much, but I am definitely hoping for improved high ISO performance, so the additional cost may be worth it if that is the case.

Time will tell.

If so, I'm in. Same body, similar AF system with maybe a more sensitive central point, same 100% VF, but with a better sensor with good 3200 ISO... I guess people expect much more, but that would be just what I need.
The new 7D, if the rumors are correct, should be a terrific camera, albeit too expensive for a hobby shooter like myself.
US$ 1,600 body only for such a camera, maybe?

Did you know that Canon Rumors has a Rumor Page as well as a forum?  The March 22 anoncement was published a while back.
A 70D is a likely possibility, since Canon is sending out invites.

70D is expected later this month (March).  I expect it to be a worthwhile upgrade from 40D or Rebel series, but maybe less so from 60D - the logical step up from there is the 6D, much cheaper than I expect the 7DII to debut at.  AFMA and WiFi would be welcome, as would a body-only price in the 1k range.  Neither the 60D nor the 40D will suddenly start taking crappy photos when the 70D is released.  I think Canon may be making great strides in crop sensor performance but wouldn't expect to see the best there is in the 70D, that will go into what I expect to be a shockingly high priced 7DII.  Just my $.02
