Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
ferdi:
The 15-85mm is probably the best EF-S kit lens out there, better than the 17-85 and obviously the 18-55/18-135 "toy" zooms. Great for walk-around, smooth zoom ring, fast USM and of course IS. The lens is a bit heavy for Rebels but matches the 7D perfectly.
15mm is pretty wide (24mm FF) but in the end I wanted something even wider so I sold my copy after getting the 10-22 + 24-105L combination. Still highly recommended as general purpose lens, along with the 17-55 f/2.8 but I don't see that one in any kit.

Agreed about the front heaviness, but with a battery grip adding bottom weight to my T2i it's much more balanced.

Probably one of my favourite photos I ever took with the 15-85, from a shoot we had last summer. And — just throwing this out there, but — it's probably the best non-L glass in the EF/EF-S stable...provided you get a good copy. The first two I got were decentred, I had to ship them back on warranty (thankfully Future Shop's return policy covers that sort of thing with free replacements). Now that I've got one that's the way (I'm sure) Canon intended it to be, I rarely take the thing off my camera until I need a really specialty lens/angle or a true macro shot.

I love that lens!
Good in every condition, sharp, nice cromatic performance... heavy too...!

I'd be interested in an EF-M version of this lens for the lil ol M
