I'll let you know if it ever need repair. 8)

But with a nice leading question like that you will no doubt get the response you are looking for.

It hasn't been out that long, I hope not many people have needed repairs up till now.

That's going to be a tough one to answer.  Most of us have only had the 1DX since summer, and I'd really hope that NO camera would need repaired by now.

I have not heard of any problems initially, but more importantly, please ask the question again in 2-3 years.

That will tell you how well the camera last under regular use.

If the 1Dx is anything like the other 1D series bodies, you can hammer nails with it (though I would not recommend using the camera as a $7000 hammer) without damaging.

What sort of punishment are you expecting it to live through?

My 1DX has worked flawlessly (I have had in for the lubrication job, took 15min and was done while I waited), I do however need to send it in for service now, I had it cleaned at a locel photo shop yesterday, and somehow the sensor got scrathed (the repair will cost about 2000US$ i was told)....

The question is, was it scratched before the local shop attempted to clean it?  Hard to prove it wasn't, unfortunately…

I took a picture while I was at the store (before handing it over), and that picture shows no scracth (they have agreed that it´s their fault, and it will be serviced without any cost for me), but yes normally it would my word against word.

Excellent, and a good bit of advice for the rest of us!

I can not imagine a bunch of anecdotal evidence on a forum to give a solid basis for statistical analysis.

The lack of such evidence may say something, though :)

Can you share some tips on how you took a picture of the sensor in such a way as to show scratches?  That sounded like a very wise thing to do before trusting a local store to mess with your camera.
I shoot with a Camera Obscura with an optical device attached that refracts and transmits light

Blemishes on the filter sitting atop the sensor can easily be seen at f22-f32, the apertures I use to map sensor dust.
