I feel the big advantage of the Mark 3 over the Mark 2 is the autofocus system.  If you have no complaints about the Mark 2 autofocus, the advantage is not so great.

I shoot a lot with primes at large apertures, so precise autofocus is much appreciated.  However, if you mostly shoot with zooms at say, F/4 and up, you won't see much advantage.

I can only recommend the 1D X.

I can only recommend 4 1DX's

1 with 600mm f4 for wildlife [also doubles up as stool]
1 with 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x for nearer wildlife or far away sports [doubles up as baseball bat if invited to said far away sports]
1 with 24mm-70mm ii for general photography [take 2 for really general photography]
1 with prototype EF 14mm-24mm for wide angle and landscape [you are a loser if you do not own this lens]

I would not even leave the house without any of that gear! you'll just be wasting your time.......
Amen!

If you are in doubt, its likely not for you.  A camera body is not the most important part of a system, but lenses are, and they make a body look like chump change.  Budget 3X the cost of a body for lenses.

If you have $X, get the best lens and a low cost body with whats left.  If price is no object, you don't need to ask.

Congratulations, it's an amazing camera.  I thought it was great and I paid almost $3800 for mine after tax, but at $2400 from the refurb store it's more like the best camera ever.

I've actually been curious about that, I'd like to see what people's reactions would have been like if it had been $2399 on announcement day.  I bet there wouldn't have been a single complaint.

I've had the 5D Mark III for about 6 months and have shot over 11000 pictures with it so far.   It is a great camera for practically anything and is great in the lower-light environments that I shoot in, coupled with appropriate lenses, of course.   I highly recommend it.

Lenses:  (all Canon except one Sigma, noted):  70-200mm f/2.8L (non IS version), 200mm f/2.8L, 135mm f/2L, Sigma 85mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4, 28mm f/1.8.  Note that my higher quality lenses are 85mm and longer since that's what I shoot mostly.   The 50 and 28 are not "L" but are fine for when I need them not so frequently.
