Bogus Canon Rebate Prices at B&H
« on: April 14, 2013, 03:23:55 PM »
Yesterday (04-13-2013), the price of the Canon 6D Kit with EF 24-105mm Lens at B&H was $2,199. Today with the introduction of Canon's BIG rebates the price is $2,399. What bogus B.S.!

Instead of blaming B&H, you will need to blame Canon's minimum advertised price policy that went into effect a couple of years ago.

However, if you give it a few days, the price may drop...  But you would need to add the item to your cart to see the lower price.

Thats normal.  Canon requires that sellers give their rebates off the MSRP.  Its been that way for a long time.

Kind of wondering about that myself......B and H price for 5D3 yesterday was 3299, then early today it was 3099........was going to order later today, now it's back up to 3299 WITH the rebate!

Anybody (Neuro?) have any feelings or insight as to what will likely happen over the next few weeks? I need a 5D3 (well, nobody really NEEDS ONE) by the end of the month or so.....I guess I hope it gets back to 2949 or so like it was a couple weeks ago...

Its possible, but ...  As long as Canon is running the rebate, and buyers are gobbling inventory, there is no benefit for sellers to cut the price.

From Los Angeles, the best price on the 5D MKIII would be eBay seller BigValueInc which has the 5DMKIII + 24-105mm Kit for $3,596.82.

I say from "Los Angeles" because here it is easy to sell the new 24-105mm lens for $750 on Craigslist (if you just needed the body) thereby bringing the price of the 5DMKIII Body down to $2,850.

Savvy buyers know that the first few hours of the rebate, when prices are still "in flux" is when the best deals happen. Sometimes the prices are even set incorrectly as the retailers don't rebate off the right base amount.

I scooped up the 6D+24-105mm deal this morning for $2199... and I added a 70-300 IS for $199.

After I sell the 70-300 IS for $300 and the 24-105mm for $700 I will have my $1200 6D body :)

Is that how marketing works these days. You have a big rebate sale to stimulate sales and the prices go up instead of down :o

Can you run that math by me again? $2199 + $199 = $2398
$2398 - $700 - $300 = $1398

Yeah I was happy this morning to see on B+H the 6D + 24-105 for $2199 and the 70-300 for an additional $200. I was just trying to decide if I wanted the extra lens before I bought. Then when I looked later the 6d kit had gone back up to $2399, including rebate. Doh!!!

But, fyi for anyone interested, Best Buy is selling the 6d + 24-105 for $2199 now. But they are not offering the 70-300 for $200 on top of that. I'm very close to hitting the buy button...

Consider the 7D which was available for $999 to $1099 with careful shopping... now $1299 "with the rebate".  Its all a game... just a game

Sometimes rebates are the prelude to actual price decreases, again, for marketing reasons.

Time will tell

More like $1400 ($2199 + $199 - $300 - $700  = $1398), but still a great deal!

They typically raise the price and then offer a rebate to soften the blow.  However, times are tough and they are not increasing prices.  I've never seen MSRP drop after a rebate.  Dealers do sometimes lower their price by making little or no markup, but it has nothing to do with Canons dealer price.
