Image/Movie Database Software
« on: June 27, 2013, 05:58:17 PM »
Hello,
I thought maybe some of you can help me: For a very specific purpose I need a software, preferably Windows, that acts only as an image/movie database. It should NOT have any image editing features. Only store the content and make it easy to find a specific image/movie, preferably via metadata. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
H

Well...maybe if you give us the specific purpose that could help. I'm guessing this is for some kind of POS type use case so people can view-only, but whatever they want not just a specific slideshow you put together.

Try using google? I found http://www.wincatalog.com/file-indexing.html and http://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html in a few seconds, not sure if either meets your needs or not.

Medical images (endoscopy), rather low-res. Should not be altered by the colleagues or anyone else, of course. For teaching lessons, individual images with the right keywords have to be found quickly and reliably. Of course I tried google, but didn't find anything really suitable. I would like to have something like Lightroom but without all the editing stuff.

Perhaps something like pax-it, which is used in the applications you describe.  Its going to be EXPENSIVE, but it offers security that is needed with medical, forensic, and scientific images.

Low priced software might do it for you as well

Thanks, I will try the low-price solution. As we of course have a quite safe professional primary database (which is exam oriented and doesn't offer good searching for specific images), I don't need a high level of security. The image database will only contain anonymized images, we just need it for teaching purposes.
