USA rebates, USA rebates... Discounts in US shops days after days. Almost nothing in Europe.
Prices in euro equal Prices in dollars despite Euro values more than dollar... and son on.
I feel like Canon is doing commercial discrimination towards european customers.

I just got an email from my preferred shop in Denmark (photografica.com), and they announced that Canon starts a cashback campaign on Monday (April 22nd), running until June 30th. It's a fairly limited list of items:

380DKK cashback:
Canon EF 40/2,8 STM
Canon 430EX II Speedlite
500DKK cashback:
Canon EOS 700D
520DKK cashback:
Canon EFS 18-200/3,5-5,6 IS
Canon EF 70-300/4,0-5,6 IS USM
Canon EFS 60/2,8 Macro USM
600DKK cashback:
Canon EOS 60D
750DKK cashback:
Canon EOS 7D
Canon EFS 10-22/3,5-4,5 USM
Canon EFS 17-55/2,8 IS USM
Canon EF 17-40/4,0 L USM
Canon EF 100/2,8 L MACRO IS USM
Canon 600EX RT Speedlite
1.500DKK cashback:
Canon EF 16-35/2,8 L II USM
Canon EF 8-15/4,0 L USM Fisheye
2.240DKK cashback:
Canon EF 24-70/2,8 L II USM
Canon EF 70-200/2,8 L IS II USM

If you're living outside of the EU, you can get the 25% VAT returned when you leave the country (ticket, passport, receipt and item must be shown to the customs).

With the cashback and getting the VAT back, the 70-200/2,8 II is about USD2.280, which is an okay price considering that you get a 2 year warranty due to the Danish legislation.

Canon is broken up into regional divisions, and each one sets prices and sales according to what their marketing department believes will work.
It has little to do with currency values, and everything to do with profit.  If a regional branch of Canon is meeting sales targets and profit targets, they don't feel pressure to offer big discounts.

It boils down to different strategies for Europe, Canada, USA, Asia,Oceania,Africa, etc.

It is not just Canon. Look at the prices of the CF cards. US is cheapest then it seems UK/Europe then in Asia the price is about 3-4 times what it is in the US! That really is weird considering they are nearly all made in China, which is of course in Asia. :-)

and we still complaining about Canon rebates & dealer discounts are not big enough.

Many of us want BEST products from Canon with full service & wanrranty, but DO NOT wish to pay for full price. We want to pay at street prices :-[

Of course everyone wants cheaper prices but to answer your question (for the UK) I don’t think there is discrimination by Canon after you have taken tax into consideration actually I think the prices have never been closer. I do think that high street shops are trying to compete against the internet but sadly just not succeeding, could Canon help them with that? I don't know, others will value what shops give higher though as for me this is a hobby not a profession. Rebates exist and are a simple sales gimmick, the base price goes up prior to the rebate, that happens everywhere.

What I am really envious of though is Canon Refurbished

Not discrimination but rather business practices, profit pressures, and taxes.   Are you willing to accept US standards - minimal social safety net.  I got laid off a year ago.  26 weeks of unemployment, I got less than 20% of my work salary in unemployment, ....

In the UK, Canon sells Refurbished items thru a third party.  They are sold on ebay for excellent prices, sometimes lower than US refurbs.

I have heard about a new cashback-Promo-Tour in germany starting on may 2nd until July. I´m also waiting for it, cause I want to buy a 5d3. It seems to be the same cashback-action like in uk actually.
Look here: http://www.colorfoto.de/news/canon-cashback-aktion-ab-mai-2013-bis-zu-300-euro-sparen-1498920.html

Da bin ich ja mal gespannt !!!
