+1 on Epson v750. I like the IQ and high resolution. Good software and a variety of film holders/guides are included so it's quick and easy to use. If you end up wanting something really specialized (or eventually lose interest in film), you're not out that much money.

Thanks for all the replies, everybody. Like in everything else, You gotta pony up for the good stuff. Right now, my needs for a new portrait lens outweigh my needs for a film scanner.  I just got back my first roll from North Coast, and I'm quite happy with the results. Any flaws in the images are that of my own, and not developing/scanning.
In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where.

Gear: Canon 5DmkII, 17-40mm f/4 L, 50mm f/1.4, 70-200mm f/4.
