Hi, I am planning on taking some outdoor portraits for a friend strictly for fun and I'd like some advice on what to take or use. All of my equipment info is in my signature. I plan on getting an umbrella and reflector at somepoint. What could you recommend me taking for this? We plan on going to a forrest reserve for photos about mid afternoon. The person that I will be photographing will be a female if that makes any difference to the equipment to bring. any advice and recommendations would be amazing.
A few immediate thoughts of things to try:
Put the sun behind them so it's a rim/hair light, light up their face with flash (on a stand if you can, on camera if you can't).
Shoot with subject standing just inside solid shade (you in the sun). Add a flash on a stand behind for rim light or to the side/front to add dimension.
Use a scrim to diffuse the sunshine if you have someone to hold the scrim.
Put the sun behind them and use a reflector for fill (if you have someone to hold it, or have a stand with grips and it isn't windy). Gold reflector will probably be way too much, but white ought to do ok.
