If the SL1 has a new sensor, it doesn't look very good. Just ran across this review and they put it up against the Canon 7D and D7100 in low light for photos and videos.

You can download the RAW files from the SL1 here: http://learningcameras.com/reviews/4-dslrs/150-canon-sl1-review
They do not look that good though.

I noticed that our local Costco store had a big pallet full of SL1's with a 2 lens kit today.  It was not as small as I had expected, it feels pretty good even in my large hand.

DPR now has their review up, and at high ISO's, it doesn't match the 700D.  I found that disappointing.  That does not mean its a camera to avoid, but I had hoped for a better sensor, not a step down, even if its a small step.

Interesting. So there's more to the special sauce than just Digic 5 and a new sensor, eh?

They had this at Best Buy and I got to play with it a little.  It is so tiny in my big hands.  The 6D with a battery grip is perfect for me.  I think the size is really the selling point for this camera.  The daylight images look pretty good though.  That 18mp sensor seems to be getting a little old.  I'll probably never go back to an APS-C so I guess it really doesn't matter.

HDR photos look best when I can't see them.

It is sad, that a big company like Canon sells this 18MP sensor for four years in many different cameras.
Like using the same film in every camera in the analog days.
I loved the Ilford FP4, but sometimes I used a PAN F or a Fuji Neopan 1600.

1D MKIV, 5DMk III, lot of lenses, flashes etc
Fuji X100s, Sony RX100 III,
Fuji X- E2, XF 23 1,4, XF 18- 55 2,8-4

Not sad at all. Quite remarkable really how they managed it! If it aint broke ...

I also handled one at my local Costco.  To me it felt so small that it didn't balance well with the kit zoom lens.  Not enough body to hold on to.   It might feel right to me with the 40 pancake, but I have an S-90 and a T2i for those times when I need a small camera.  I don't see the SL1 filling any useful role for me and since the sensor is nothing special, it's a big yawn here.
