I think there must be a couple of typos in this rumor (or it's a really bad rumor):

Here are the old cameras being replaced:
SX30 IS - 14mp - 35x
SX130 IS - 12mp - 12x
S95 - 10mp - 3.8x

So just based on the above, the red below I think is likely incorrect:
SX40HS - 12mp - 35x Zoom
SX150 IS - 14mp - 12x Zoom
S100 - 12mp - 5x Zoom

I'm very interested in the SX40 IS.  The two things I hope it has the SX30 doesn't:
- 1080p video
- Digic 5

And I REALLY wish (but already pretty sure it won't happen):
- CMOS

The SX150 designation would make sense if Canon is following the same path with the SX1xx as with the SX2xx, where the SX220 is apparently a version without GPS not sold in the US so that for US consumers the series designation appears to skip from SX210 to SX230. 

Any thoughts on why the SX150 would not have a 14X zoom -- the SX1xx series had seemed to follow the SX2xx lens changes (after, of course, the SX2xx series was introduced.)

Surprised there isn't more information on the next G series.  Also, should be interesting if Canon reduces the overall size of the G series.

However, if Canon is coming out with a mirrorless model next year, would they phase out the G series and have the G12 just continue on until the introduction?

The s100 that is suggested would probably cover everything the G series would do. For the G series they'd have to go back to the drawing board... especially with 4/3 and the x100 as competition.

What on  with a 35x zoom?  Assuming 50mm = 1x, that's 1750mm!

Those consumer cameras seem just to add extra features that mom and pop just eat up

Very interested here as well on a successor to the SX30 IS.  I'm hoping for a big improvement in burst mode and availability of the new model for my hiking trip in CO at end of Sept.   Think either of those 'hopes' will become realities?

The S90 and S95 announcement dates were both August 19. Could the S100 (or whatever it's called) be announced Friday?
The Berlin IFA Consumer Electronics Show - world's largest and most important is September 2. One would assume all pending new cameras will be announced prior to the convention.

Burst speed like you said, together with RAW format and 1080p video.

I'm hoping they announce it  on Tuesday.
