Upcoming PowerShots Along with the EOS updates coming, there’s obviously going to be some new PowerShots as well. Below are the confirmed models.

SX40HS - 12mp - 35x Zoom

SX150 IS - 14mp - 12x Zoom

S100 - 12mp - 5x Zoom

I haven’t seen anything on a G12 replacement, which is odd.

What on  with a 35x zoom?  Assuming 50mm = 1x, that's 1750mm!

Those consumer cameras seem just to add extra features that mom and pop just eat up

The widest setting will likely be 24mm (equ) just like the SX30 predecessor.  The long end will be 840mm.  Looks like the SX40 will gain the BL-CMOS sensor from the 100HS, 300HS, and 500HS, and the SX30 will pass it's sensor down to the SX150, and the S100 will have a longer zoom than the S90/S95 that came before (5x vs. 3.8x).  Hopefully the S100 will continue with the f2 on the short end.  The 5x would seem to indicate a wider short end on the S100 (24-120mm) than the 3.8x on the S90/S95 (28-105mm), or could they be thinking about adding it to the long end only (28-140mm)?  Another inch forward for the Powershots, yippee.  Honestly though, I think Canon makes the absolute best P&S cameras on the market so little improvements don't really bother me.

I hope it's the former.  A 24-120mm (equivalent) S100 with f/2 at the wide end would induce me to upgrade from my S95.  A 28-140mm (equivalent), bah, no thanks.

The G12 won't be replaced. Later next year a new EVIL camera from Canon will appear.

I like fotoloco's thought process.  With the body size of the G-series cameras I see no reason Canon cannot make a ILC with a larger sensor and maintain the body size (or less) and have conciderably better IQ (albeit without the collapsable lens).  The G-series are consistent amongst the most expensive P&S cameras, and as long as they don't raise the price much, it shouldn't get into the entry-level SLR range.

I agree the G12 should be replaced with an APS-C mirrorless to stay competitive... forget 4/3

I hope it's the former.  A 24-120mm (equivalent) S100 with f/2 at the wide end would induce me to upgrade from my S95.  A 28-140mm (equivalent), bah, no thanks.

although I don't own a P&S yet I might get one within the next year.

Any idea on when the s100 might be released and for how much?

Previous releases in the line have beleased in August but hard to find in stock, better availability in September.  Prices have been pretty steady at $400 MSRP.

I still maintain that the EOS IX form-factor would be great in this market segment...

I was thinking the same thing also.  I owned S100, which is at least 10 years ago, as far as I remember.

Just because there's no rumor, it doesn't mean there's no replacement coming. But remember: Even if there's a rumor, there isn't necessarily a product coming.

The s100 that is suggested would probably cover everything the G series would do. For the G series they'd have to go back to the drawing board... especially with 4/3 and the x100 as competition.
