Couldn't find this Canon mount in the lens gallery.  Thought I would add one to see if others are using this lens.

While there are few limitations to this lens (doesn't seem to respond to extenders well, missing a few options as compared with the Canon version), the reviews all seem to indicate that this lens holds its own (and some indicate more than holds it own) against the Canon MKII version - which is a pretty huge feat.  200mm seems to be the weak point, but this is certainly an impressive lens, and I suspect the bokeh is in fact better than the Canon version.  These pics look pretty nice - keep them coming!  I am somewhat tempted by this lens.

I used the Tamron SP 2x teleconverter on some shots.  It works well with the lens.  Focus is a bit slower, so have to key in on fast moving objects before you start firing.  The only other effect was a bit of softness is the raw images, but Lightoom sharpening brought them right back.

Hey all,

I have had this lens only a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to shoot much, but have a moon shot!! 1/100th, ƒ9, ISO 100, 200mm, handheld. I don't recall exactly how much, but close to 80% crop, IIRC.

Hey all,

Does anyone else use this lens? It is really a nice lens, I would say just a touch under vII quality, but not far!!

I bought the original, non-vc version of this lens when it was introduced a few years ago after renting it first.  IQ was very near Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS (I), tough af was slower, and I liked that it was black and more inconspicuous, but it seemed to spend more time in the shop or needing repair/adjustment than in use.  I owned the lens for around 3 years, & there was something wrong with it for some 14 months all total.  After last repair I sold it and put the proceeds toward a used copy of the aforementioned Canon.
I'm hearing very positive things about Tamron qc nowadays, though.  I still use my 28-75, and their new 24-70 vc is on my wish list.  Very nice shots, btw...

Hey all,

Two of the things that really surprised me with this lens is that the af and the vc are dead silent! I can't hear them at all! The focus is a hair slower than the vII that I was looking at, but nothing that i will miss in actual photo taking. So far, I really like the overall quality of this lens, especially for significant amount less than the Canon version!

Sometime over the next few weeks the manufacturer will be loaning me this lens for review purposes.  I will be posting an in depth review once I have put the lens through its paces.  I'm excited about the opportunity, as I really love my 24-70VC.

I LOVE my lens. I also am using a Tamron 1.4 TC SP and it works fantastic with little degradation in IQ. This lens at 280 f/4 is sweet. It has made me rethink my desire for an EF 300 f/4 IS.
