If you are buying in Canada with Canadian $ you are probably price neutral by buying locally.

Same for Germany, but the offer shows how much potential there still is for the 6d to drop in price - and imho Canon has designed it to be produced cheaper than the successor (shutter & body vs. 5d2).

What's the price in Germany? Just curious, because I always thought that photo gear was more expensive in Europe than in the US.

Since release it has dropped ~100€/month, currently it's stuck below the €1700 barrier, but I expect it to move downwards again since imho this full frame 60d is still overpriced: http://geizhals.de/canon-eos-6d-slr-gehaeuse-8035b022-a838323.html

Thank you! That's about what I expected...  €1700 is equivalent to over $2200 vs $1600 with this deal. By saying it's price neutral to buy locally, did you mean it costs roughly the same number of € there as number of $ here?

As for pricing moving downwards, I would agree, but surprisingly, in the US it seems to have gone up in the last month or two.

I'm surprised that nobody has chimed in on what this dealer is doing.  They are taking the 6D kit and removing the lens from the kit.  Since the kit is running about $2500 (give or take), this then presumes that he is selling the kit 24-105 f4L for about $876.  He makes his price on the 'kit' and people get great deals on the components.

If I had to guess, I would think that Canon might have a problem with this - *IF* he is an actual Canon dealer.

Ordered a 6D from them about a month ago when it was only $1599.  Shipped promptly, arrived as new unused in the kit box....  Can't complain about the vendor, and the camera is an excellent 1st Full Frame.  Very happy with the images to come out of the camera so far. (It's already been on a dozen different productions / sets)  Nice to have your lenses "back"....

You have to factor in, that prices in Germany include about 20% of VAT, which you would have to add to the US price if you import it legally. That would make for a price of roughly 1500€, but then you don't have the 2 year warranty. Also that would be without shipping. Can be a good idea to get it when on vacation in the states, but technically it's smuggling to bring it with you without declaring it at customs.

RadioPath, thank you for the explanation. I guess I've never ordered anything from abroad, so I was not aware of the additional costs like VAT and import duties.

You have to factor in, that prices in Germany include about 20% of VAT, which you would have to add to the US price if you import it legally.

This information is not complete for Germany/EU, see e.g. http://www.zolltarifnummern.de/zollgebuehren.php?lang=en

* up to 22€: No import tax, no vat, no nothing
* up to 150€: add vat
* above 150€: add vat *and* import tax

So basically this means with expensive items you're screwed, just as the rationale of these laws is. The good thing: cheap items are easily bought from china at a fraction of the local price...

...and for some magic reason the customs label of much more expensive items always is only 20€ :-p ... not that you'd have to ask for it, they just do it since they figure customs cannot correctly evaluate gear like flash brackets, lens hoods or caps.

I ordered one this past Friday (5/31) for $1,624.99 and received a call from someone at GetItDigital today (6/3) asking if I would like to upgrade my purchase to the 6D model that includes GPS and WiFi. I thought that was a bit odd, since this is listed as the USA model, which by default comes with GPS and WiFi. It seemed a bit fishy, the sales person then tried to change the topic a bit by trying to sell me an extended warranty and a few other accessories. I really hope this isn't a scam...

Just received my 6D on Friday (6/10), it was the USA model with GPS and WiFi (both features tested and working). It was as stated in the description, the 6D kit with lens removed. I was able to register the serial number with Canon USA for the warranty, so it appears to be legit.
