Tried to pull a fast one and get it at Best Buy using their "price match" thing. They don't stock it in store though
This price seems too low for Canon... even if a new one with the new AF system, higher resolution/better everything came out. This price seems like an "F it" move that could only be appropriate if the eos M is going extinct already... or is that me overreacting...
Is it possible that a new mirrorless camera could come with the EF mount standard?
The 70-200 II had been selling at $2400, then in Dec 2012 it dropped by $500, and IIRC, Adorama sold it even cheaper for a few days. The price went up - it's still cheaper than $2400, but >$300 more than the nadir.
I think the steep discount, combined with the facts that we're fast approaching the 1-yr anniversary of the EOS M announcement (late July, 2012) and that the M is a consumer camera and the Rebel/xxxD line has been getting annual updates, as well as the 70D's sensor, which is almost tailor-made for mirrorless, means that we'll see an M II announcement pretty soon.
But this really is a great price - as I said, it should be possible to sell it down the line for little loss. An M II will be far more expensive for a while.
Canon just released a UWA zoom for the M. An M with an EF mount would be giving up the thinner depth that eliminating the mirror gives, it's not going to happen.
