Prices in Thailand
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:43:57 AM »
Just for the heck of it. I went to the Canon store today. They have stores here just for looking at the equipment.
I picked up a catalog then went to the larger retailers and asked for the prices of the cameras.
This is with full warranty and VAT refund for the foreigner.

Canon 1Dx catalog - 195,000 Baht. $6093.75   price after VAT refund  $5728.13

1Dx at big photo shops. No cut rate shops. Only the biggest and most trusted.
1Dx - 185,000 Baht. 5781.25  price after VAT refund $5434.38

5D III big shop with warranty. about 26-2700 dollars. Vat refund would be about $2538 that is without haggeling at all.

I thought interesting, Just thought I would share.

Yea, that is where I buy most of  my gear also. A great friendly gear head shop.
Picked up a new ID mark IV at World camera though. Best price around at the time.

which shop was it ?  would you give me the exact name  of it?
if possible , try AVcamera, they are very good.
very professional and very well regarded by the local pros.
and fotofile.net is a good shop as well but the owner of the AV is better more professional and friendly , albeit a bit small size of business compared to fotofile.

there is also worldcamera but I am not a big fan of them since their prices tend to be more expensive.
anyway,  electronics are not cheap in Thailand , the RX-1R was 99200baht, which is roughly 2800USD(in tokyo it was 2100us)
if you want to get it cheap go HK or Shang Hai.

Sure fotofile!
Went to word camera but they were much higher.
I have never heard of AVcameras! Where is it? I will go check it out.
I bought a 300 II and Mark IV from World camera. Siam square , getway second floor. And the 500 II at fotofile.
Do you know Joy from Fotofile, Central Phra ram 3 shopping mall.
He quit and is a bird guide now. He took care of most all big glass sales.

Looks to me like the 1dX and 5D III is a very good price. Even retail here? Compared to allot of places.
I would really like the 1dx that is why i originally went to Canon. Very nice fellow there helped me. But he did not have the 1dx for me to try. I was a little disappointed. I played with the 5D III quite a-bit. And we got to talking about lenses. Those guys will steer you in the right direction. As far as the best price is concerned. He is the one that told me about fotofile and the price.

I am in Chiang Mai now. Went to a few shops at Airport mall and the 5D III is the same at the big shops, 26-2700, full warrenty and VAT refund. For tourists. That is why I buy my gear here. The price is pretty good and I buy before I make a hop back home to America. Then I get the VAT refund.

AV cameras has a website at avcamera.com (though it is a pretty bad one).

I am often in Thailand (though I do not buy my cameras etc there) and I like Big Camera, World Camera and Fotofile, but I often get the names of the shops mixed up. The price can be even cheaper in HK at some shops - just remember to negotiate.

HK is also very good for cameras, but only go to reputable dealers as there are plenty that will gladly rip you off.

Make sure you go to the Canon Centre in TST (HK) where you can play with pretty much every lens and camera you fancy.

The only reason I have not gone to HK is because of the possibility of a bad product and having to send it back for warranty. I live in Thailand most of the time and the Canon warranty center here is very nice and handy for me if I have a problem.
I know a guy that does business in China and buys all his gear there. But I am not quite at that stage of trust yet.
G

Just checked out AVcamera on the web. Good price on the 5D III for sure... 2675 dollars
1dx 6000 dollars, If you get a VAT refund with that price it is very good. with VAT refund it would be about 5640 That is a good price IMO.

Fotofile on there web page is advertising the 1DX at 5931.25! After VAT refund 5575.38 Even with out any haggling. That is with the current exchange rate of 32 baht to the dollar.  http://www.fotofile.net/product.php?id=17124
Fotofile says you will get a 7% VAT refund but I have never got that at the airport. So I calculated 6% just to cover myself here. You may get the full 7%? But I do not!

With all you guys talking HK. What is the price of the 5D III and 1DX there?
