What lens and hood combination is this?
« on: September 26, 2013, 12:58:31 PM »

Just saw a CPL comparison on a webpage and saw the nuttiest thing.  See attached pictures or the link below.

I call this nutty because it looks like a 24-70 F/2.8 Mk I with the 24-105's hood on it.

Link here:

1) Did I get that combination right?

2) Why on earth would you put that hood and that lens together in such a fashion?  I recognize how much smaller that is from the 24-70 Mk I hood, but if it's not correctly shading the lens... why use it?

Thx,
A

Just guessing: he's not interested in the hood for shading purposes particularly, but is using it for impact protection (when retracted), and because of the specific test being done (testing circular polarizers) he wanted to have maximum easy access to the polarizer without the lens hood interfering, and the normal lens hood would have made it more difficult to reach the filter.

Caption: "Dammit, I brought the wrong lens hood, but at least I have this cool polarizer.  I''ll post some pictures of it to mess with those forum guys' heads."
