Well I have to say I'm bitterly disappointed with the SX30 if it is infact replacing the SX1.  This is due to a CCD after the rumored backlit CMOS and with that who cares about the wider angle or zoom increase?

Hey for an improvement over the SX20 sure, fine, but this is not going to replace the SX1, so is that still to come?

Maybe we can get some readjusted rumors to flow out from Canon?

And to be clear in my thoughs, I don't care if the SX1 replacement cost $800, what I want (incase Canon is listening) is:

- a 1/1.7 CMOS
- a 1 mega pixel Electronic Viewfinder
- a 3" articulated display on the back
- 2 fully programmable selections on the mode dial
- 14 megapixel CMOS
- a 24x or better zoom
- 2 slots for SDHC cards and an OS that'll copy or move files between them
- If it must come with a Lithium Battery then add an optional external device to hold/use 4AA batteries as a option -OR- a recharger that accepts 4 AA batterys as its power (yes, the 4 AA's would charge the lithium battery pack in a separate device)
- The remote from the SX1
- an increase in the digital zoom to 6x
- Make the lense standard to accept standard filters
- Either add an eyelet on the lense cover for a lanyard or state in the manual that gluing one to the outside of the lense cap will-NOT void the warrenty of the camera.

That's one way to look at it.  Personally, I don't look to a point-and-shoot camera for 'professional and serious' but what I value most regardless of camera type is image quality.  The G12 and S95 use a sensor that is 35% larger than that used in the SX30, and the pixels in that larger sensor are themselves larger (fewer megapixels in a larger sensor).  That translates to better light sensitivity and images with less noise.  The SX30 is intended to impress people for whom more is better - more megapixels, more optical zoom.  More is not better.  Better is better.  The G12 is Canon's highest-end PowerShot for a reason, and the S95 is a very close second (and superior in some ways, with it's f/2 lens).

I ordered the SX30 after viewing stills and videos from it. I have the Pentax K-7 and DS2 DSLRs along with many other cameras (Canon TX1 etc) and might purchase the Canon 5D Mark III when it comes out next year.

Mr canon sx30, you do make me chuckle. So my 24-105 with its 5x zoom range isnt professional, and my 70-200 2.8 must be less so then? My 300 2.8 must be my least professional lens by your logic! I wish someone told me before I got them! I should have gotten one of those awesome tamron superzoom 8-600mm f23 jobs I see in magazines. You try shooting weddings or commercial shoots with your 'more professional' sx30 lol.

Canon seem to have this more everything must be better rip going, if the sx30 had dslr like IQ then I'd be all over one but I doubt it. That lens has wayyy too much zoom to maintain quality and the sensor is just too small. The dof must be measured in AU, talk about 'to infinity and beyond!'.
