Yeah ... kind of wonder if that was put up after this thread was started...

Were you in China flapping your arms last year?  I was just wondering if that might have caused Hurricane Sandy...   ::)

Pentax's latest toy, the K-3 has more fps, more AF points, more MP, better metering...

The K3 BETTER have better metering, or at least as good as the 7D's was.
I find the only thing to gripe about on my K52s is the metering; inconsistent, unpredictable, and often way under-exposed.
From what I've seen so far, it's new metering system will be about what Canon or Nikon have already been doing for a long time even on their P&S bodies.  The extra resolution of the K3's metering sensor may, however, make it close to what the D800 can do - and that's sweet.

If K3's AF is at least as good as the old 7D's it'll be good enough for me.
Time to sell the 100-400L and use that to fund a K3 while dredging up some other loot for a Sigma 150-500 to take its place.  Total outlay still cheaper than adding a new 7D2 (to an old lens) is likely to be.

But no rush to do that. I'll wait until the K3's tests and reviews are out, add my own noise tests and decide.
Maybe the 7D2 will arrive by then to wow us and cause a moment of reconsideration.

I think that they are waiting for Nikon to make a move and release the D400, until then they don't feel that they have to release the 7D Mark II. It's their main rival so why release their camera before Nikon?

Just my view on this, just guessing...

Pentax's latest toy, the K-3 has more fps, more AF points, more MP, better metering, better viewfinder, USB 3.0, new AA feature ...

And what has Canon given us recently? ...
Canon has plenty of incredible lenses which Pentax can NEVER match ... Canon's 7D with a 400mm, or 500mm or 600mm or 800mm lens will kick Pentax's a55 any day, even with their latest "toy".

maybe, once Canon picks themselves up and brushes off the dust from the $1300 kick that just landed on their rump. ;)
I'm not a super long-lens geek but the new Pentax 560/5.6 performs well enough optically and it's long enough to use as a weapon.

So what you're saying is that unless you're using a zoom >= 400mm, there's no point in being on Canon?

I am really surprised Canon has not released the successor to the 7D yet.... its certainly time.

So in the last two years Canon comes out with touchscreens, WiFi controls, and Dual-pixel technology.... and at the same time they say that the 7D2 will be revolutionary.... that's got to mean something more than a slightly better 70D. What if the 7D2 is mirrorless and they are still trying to get the EVF up to snuff... or some equally impressive jump in technology? What if they are alternating vertical and horizontal on the dual-pixels and haven't got it quite right yet... What if they are ISO splitting the dual pixels for increased DR....

I am much happier waiting for a true jump in features in a 7D2 than having one rushed to market with laughable "upgrades".... like going from a T4i to a T5i with a mode dial that spins all the way around... I'm sure they could introduce a 7D2 now that was barely better than a 70D, but I am patient enough to wait for a real upgrade.

Where is the Canon 7D successor?
It's at my house.  It's 48MP, shots 36 fps, has quad memory card slots and will eat your little Pentax for breakfast.

No but I believe that a certain number of "rumor" stories aren't rumors at all but strategic pieces of information leaked by Canon for the purposes of marketing.

Ahhh, so you post didn't just result in CR posting something, but rather, you are suggesting that a Canon employee read your post here on CR, then obtained the necessary management approval and subsequently strategically leaked a rumor to CRguy.  Maybe we should bump the thread where you claimed a DIGISUPER lens is actually a camera, and see if Canon leaks rumors about new DIGISUPER cameras, or better yet, starts building them.  Tail wagging the dog?  Hubris?   Whatever.

Or maybe the website operator decided to consolidate a bunch of emails into a CR1 posting because nobody had heard anything in a while or maybe someone decided to leak something that they'd been sitting on for a while or whatever. Of course it could also be that Canon preauthorise leaking of certain information based upon what happens on the Internet. The timing of a number of various leaks has been ... too coincidental for it to be unplanned. And then there's the whole 30D or was it 40D (or that point in time), where basically marketing brochures were "leaked."

... btw, the DIGISUPER stuff is old. Get yourself a new trick already - or just grow up and quit with the personal jabs already.

So what you're saying is that unless you're using a zoom >= 400mm, there's no point in being on Canon?
FYI, the lenses I've mentioned above are not "Zooms", they are prime lenses ;)
That being said, even the so called "cheap" Pentax smc DA 50mm f/1.8 Lens costs $182 and still has a plastic mounting plate, you can get Canon 50 f/1.8 II, with plastic mounting plate for $100. Pentax lenses are no match to Canon lenses, be it primes, or zooms ... forget lens quality, Pentax can't even make up their mind about what design they wanna go with, their lenses are the ugliest I've ever seen in my life, their choice of positioning green/red/gold/silver rings on lenses is always a55 ways ... their lenses look like victims of gang ra9e ... their 560mm f/5.6 ED AW lens looks like a sad rip off from Canon L lenses ... their brand new AF360FGZ II Flash and $629 AF540FGZ II Flash are the height of ugliness ... Pentax AF-540 FGZ P-TTL Shoe Mount Flash costs $400, yet it has one of the worst recycle times of 6 seconds, has a plastic shoe mount, with lots of technical problems and is ugly as hell, even the cheap Yongnuo speedlites looks elegant and out perform the $400 Pentax flash, plus the Yonguno cost a fraction of Pentax flash systems ... the choice of lenses Pentax has are no match to Canon's offering. So what I'm saying is unless Pentax has decent lenses, decent speedlites and at least one full frame sensor to grow into, there's no point in being on Pentax. Another disturbing thing is the name Pentax, sounds like pant!es  ... can't think of hanging Pant!es (that too ugly ones) around my neck while I'm "shooting" ... Canon's name obviously sounds like a mighty Canon (I have no problem showing off my Canon while "shooting")   ;D ;D ;D
