Thinking about pulling the trigger on this bad boy.

Should I just save up for the 70-200 to compliment the 24-70?

I have been wanting a fast 135 for some time now, but I'm not interested in one without image stabilization. It would be too limiting for what I want to shoot (stuff other than sports). I'm waiting to see what Sigma releases. Personally, I think you'll find many more uses for a stabilized 70-200.

If you´re looking for an excellent portrait lens, that´s a good lens and the deal seems to be fairly good. But it depends on what else you have and what you will use it for. I have it, it produces great results, but it is far from my most used lens. The 70-200 f2.8L IS II is more money, but also a lot more value.

The 70-200 would be used more often. But the 135 can produce image that the 70-200 cannot (and vice-verse, of course). The most stunning images (technically) I got are from the 135L, and that includes images taken with many L's - basically all the major players at or below 200mm, excluding the 200/2.

I really do not miss IS on my 135L.  I'm normally shooting at wide apertures, so fast shutter speeds are easy to achieve in all but the worst light.  I think this is a terrific price, if I didn't already have one, I'd pull the trigger here.

The 135L is an awesome lens!

+1, IS is not needed for me either, I use it for theatre in very low light.  IS starts to become useful at close to 200mm.

I totally agree. But if I didn´t have the 70-200 f2.8L IS II, I would get that first.

If you shoot 1/125 or faster, 135L is a better choice due to lower price tag. With 70-200 f2.8 IS II, you can take the advantage of IS and shoot at slower speed 1/60 or even slower.

I have both. In day time I usually shoot with 135L for better bokeh and less weight. 135L works really well with 5D III in AI servo. I have no problem tracking my kids running around with this lens.

-1...with IS, I can see myself shooting this lens @ 1/60 or bit slower for indoor still.

That is my next lens.  It's a rare fast canon that doesn't coma out the ass with points of lights on full frame.  Thinking it could be quite useful on Comet ISON later this year if the comet is worth a darn.  http://www.lenstip.com/320.7-Lens_review-Canon_EF_135_mm_f_2L_USM_Coma__astigmatism_and_bokeh.html

I'm pondering selling my 100-400 just to have that one.  Go for it.

Thanks for the info on the price drop. I ordered mine last week for $1089 on Amazon. Luckily, I caught it in time and they were able to refund me $100.

I use my 135L for indoor natural light portraits quite a bit.  I have a pretty steady hand so can get sharp images at 1/60, but I normally just bump the ISO up a little.  I've found that ISO1600 and f/2.0 will handle almost anything indoors during the day and ISO1600 images from a 6D, 5D3 or 1DX look great.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this bad boy.

I bought mine used from a local reputable pro earlier this year for about this same price. So yeah, if you're in the market, this is a good deal.
In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where.
