Also, the 22/2 Pancake kits show discontinued at B&H, as does the 22/2 lens itself.

The EF-M 18-55mm lens as a standalone purchase also has a significant price drop through 12/30 - it's only $129.  Might be worth considering for those who picked up the M+22 kit when it was $299.

The 85 f1.8 for $349 is a crazy good deal, anybody on the fence about that lens then please, just get it!

Neuro, I got the 22/2 $299 kit but will probably not bother with the 18-55, it makes the package much bigger so kinda defeats one of the purposes for me, but, I was using the M with a 100L macro last week for fun and was shocked at how user friendly it was compared to my normal 1 series. It is going to be doing some serious product shooting in a couple of weeks because of that tryout.

Agree on the 85/1.8 - great value now at an even better price!

I'm not planning on getting the EF-M 18-55mm as a standalone purchase.  However, if I get the M2, I'll want the 18-55 kit. My plan would be to have my current M converted to IR, and my zooms in that range (16-35 II, 24-70 II) are known to have IR hotspot issues, so I'd usually use the -M prime on the M2 for portability, and the -M zoom on the IR-M for versatility.

Indeed, $334 is cheaper than a used copy on CL. Even though I already have 85L II, I'm was temped to pull trigger on f1.8 due to low price. At the end, I will save my $$$ for 1.4X TC III & 2x TC III ::)

Value on the 85? Don't think so. I bought this lens for 379 2 years ago. There's no deal to be had here.

Also, i understand it, but its a bit disingenuous to state that someones saving 300 bucks on something that's been selling for 350 for months now. AND its on clearance. But a stores gotta do what its gotta do i guess :P

The only real 'deals' ive seen lately was a flash sale on the 28/2.8 IS a while back, and the current 10-22 which i price-stalked for over a year before i bought a used version for 530 almost a year ago. Right now i have it attached to the M- its a great combo.

Im a huge fan of the 22/f2. I rented the 24/1.4 for generally the same effect on my rebel and the focus was so busted that it has been scratched off of my list. I just wish that 22/f2 had IS. The M being so light and all, with no real grip, mean s a lot of hand shake.
Be the best you, screw everything else.

So, $335 isn't 12% cheaper than $379?  You're right, no deal at all.   ::)

Also, the 22/2 Pancake kits show discontinued at B&H, as does the 22/2 lens itself.

It's HORRIBLE news that EF-M 22 f/2 lens is discontinued.  It's a major reason I bought the EOS-M in the first place.  Canon had better have a good fast EF-M prime in the pipeline if they hope to have the EOS-M line going (which I hope)  :'(

It's not discontinued.  B&H has done this before when an item has been out of stock for a while.

I'm not planning on getting the EF-M 18-55mm as a standalone purchase.

Neuro - I do have a couple of copies of the EF-M 18-55 and coupled with the IS is the best "kit" lens that Canon has ever put out.  The fit and finish is great, the zoom is perfectly smooth, both copies attach to the camera in the smoothest way.  For $129, I just can't believe it.  I'd buy another but with the white one I bought for my wife, we have three copies and they are all perfect.

As far a the extra length, it is still shorter than any EF and adapter combination.  I hold the camera in the palm of my left hand and my index finger can work the zoom control.

For the $129 price I vote it the best Canon value that I've seen (of course $299 for camera and lens ain't bad either).  As an aside I too enjoy the 40mm pancake, the 50mm 1.8, and the 85mm 1.8 using the adapter as well.  All five lenses, flash, and camera and minor accessories will fit into a small urban disguise small thinktank bag.  My new airplane carryon.

We are looking at this from different angles, you are about waiting years to save $50, I am about taking images this week whilst thinking about value for money and performance vs price. Anybody that can wait years for a lens to save another $50 doesn't need the lens. From a performance/price perspective the current 85 f1.8 at $349 is a crazy good deal. For somebody wanting a portrait/short tele lens they will not find a better deal, up to this moment.

I played with the M today at henrys and the auto focus was very snappy now, much better with the new firmware.  It would be a nice play camera.

... and here in Rip-Off Britain, we get to pay... $567 for the EOS M and the 18-55mm lens.

It's £350* from Jessops, and with today's dollar exchange rate, that makes it $567. No thanks.

* They claim there's £50 cashback but if you buy it expecting (or worse, NEEDING) to actually receive the cashback, you're naive. There have been some horrific tales of companies in Britain conspiring to NOT pay cashback. Things like making you apply for it in writing TWICE to different addresses. Stuff like that.
