Am I the only one who is impressed (read: terrified) by the 2460 focusing points?
Depends on how large those points are. There is only so much area in a 35mm frame to fit AF points. For Sony to fit 2460 of them in the frame, they would have to be very SMALL AF points. Personally, I'd like fewer, but larger, AF points. Thousands is just too many to deal with, to manage.
I suspect in reality this is Sony's competition to Canon's DPAF. Technically speaking, Canon's DPAF allows them to dynamically create focus points anywhere in the frame, simply depending on how they process each pair of pixel halves they read out. They could have 10 million AF points, or 10 AF points, or anything inbetween.
