L plates with an intervalometer
« on: December 11, 2013, 10:05:56 PM »
I'm new to tripods/panoramas, all that good stuff. So forgive the basic question: when I'm using an L plate in order to shoot in the portrait position, how can I plug in a wired intervalometer? I'm essentially covering the spot where I would plug it in. The only option I immediately see is sort of half clamping the camera into the ball head so that the bottom half isn't covered, leaving that spot revealed. But that doesn't seem very stable. I guess this would be relevant if I were shooting a panorama in low light or for whatever reason using a longer exposure, where a cable release would be useful.

The better "L" plates will not interfere, Check out Kirk or RRS.

Which Camera and L Plate do you have?

You can see in the photos and description that it does not cover the receptacle for the 3 pin plug.

If you need even more space (if your cable has a straight plug instead of an L-shaped plug, for example), there's a spacer.

Thanks neuro! I've got an L shaped plug, so the plate should work just fine. But it's good to know that spacer exists.
