Here in Brazil the 6D can't even be found at stores (just searched -- not even online), but the 60D is worth around US$ 2,000 body-only and up to US$ 3,500 with the 18-200 kit lens. Pretty ridiculous.

Are you serious? That's crazy! For that amount, you could probably fly to the US to buy it, and still have money left after paying airfare and hotel :-).

Exactly, plus you could get a second one and sell it for a reasonable amount when you return back!!

What's the reason for that? Is it Canon's pricing policy? Electronics in general? Or is everything more expensive? I'm guessing something else (i.e. food, housing) must cost less, because it would be hard to get by paying 3x for everything. Unless your incomes in dollar terms are proportionally higher, which is unlikely.

That's right Daniel. I am from Salvador, Bahia, and almost everyone here works with APS-C cameras and lenses dark. Some use classic 5D with 28-135mm and other old things. Read Canonrumors for years and I see my reviews of great deals that never come in my country. The people in Canonrumors do not understand that body only 1DX can cost more than a new car in Brazil and many other countries. I am an advocate for APS-C because it allows working with small and less expensive equipment, but I do not say never buy full frame. What I say is that I prefer good APS-C cameras with zoom lenses F2.8 instead of 5D classic with F3.5-5.6 lens.

There are import taxes too high and Canon pricing policy. Never any promotion and discount Canon was applied to legally imported products. For this reason, almost all photographers buy illegally imported equipment and not entitled to product warranty. Furthermore, most of the Canon product line was never officially distributed here. Never find accessories like "Canon Angle Finder C" or any other unusual use.

Recently, Canon and Nikon started making commercial advertisement on primetime in the largest TV station of Brazil. Advertising Nikon shows happy people photographing. Meanwhile, the advertising Canon shows their cameras SX40 and T3i, and speaks of professional quality with ease of amateur camera. We read Canonrumors we can have two reactions to seeing an advertisement (today) with SX40 and T3i: Or laugh much, or get too annoyed with the attitude of Canon.

It is a pity. "Imported' equipment even with no support is much cheaper even in the rare case where something is damaged and has to be re...imported!

Well, there is a 3rd reaction: Ignore advertisement and continue to happily "import" Canon equipment.
At least Canon pays someone (hopefully local) for these advertisements.  :)

Very crazy indeed. Taxes represent 25-50% of the final price we pay for manufactured goods here. That's why many folks make money flying to the US and bringing stuff to sell back home for a price somewhere in between. Illegal, but it happens A LOT.
Both of my cameras, lenses, flash etc were brought to me by friends spending vacations in the US, so they cost me nothing but the price in US dollars (and a few bottles of wine...) :)
Services in general (maids, healthcare), food, housing etc are much cheaper here, on the other hand, which is very typical of underdeveloped countries.
