If that is real and they haven't put the RT protocol in there it is DOA.
Too often we lose sight of the fact that photography is about capturing light, if we have the ability to take control of that light then we grow exponentially as photographers. More often than not the image is not about lens speed, sensor size, MP's or AF, it is about the light.

I don't see how this differs from the original in any meaningful way...  LED modeling lights, an updated LCD display, and slightly shorter recycling time?

+1

Slaves are useful for lighting the background, etc.  This new ring light is only an optical master, like the original.  WTF?  Hopefully, Canon pulls their $h!t together and does an -RT version of the twin lite.

Yeah, and all the stock language in the product listings refer to linking it with 600EX-RTs.  Why not anything else?  They still sell three other optical slave flashes.
Canon 6d, t1i, 24-70/4L, 20/2.8, 28/1.8, 40/2.8, 50/1.8II, 100/2.8 macro, 70-300/4-5.6, g1x, 430exII, 90ex
Elan 7N with 28-105/3.5-4.5II, Rebel G with 35-70/3.5-4.5, A-1 with 28/2.8, 50/1.8, and 135/3.5

Not sure what's going on, here.  The DPR blurb states, "Canon also announced the MR-14EX II Macro Ring Light, which can be controlled wirelessly using the radio-based 'RT' system."  Controlled wirelessly isn't the same as controlling wirelessly, and an RT slave-only capability for a flash that only mounts to the end of the lens seems really stupid.  No real information one way or the other, because the 'wireless' in the vendor product pages could refer to optical control.

Note that this new flash is weaker - I guess they called it "MR14" because it looks the same and "MR10.5-EX" would have sounded lame.  The GN of the new flash is 10.5m/34 ft, vs the GN of the original that is 14m/46 ft.
