placed a pre-order for the ring light. I would love to see a EF 60mm IS macro lens soon.

There were four main faults with the G1X:

  • Slow AF
  • Slow lens
  • Poor optical viewfinder
  • Size and bulk

The G1X Mk. II looks like it might have fixed the first two of the problems, but there are two issues to which we still don't have definitive answers: how quick is the new AF system? How quick does the lens maximum aperture start to lose speed? I suspect the answer to both questions will be "very"!  ;)

As for the other two problems, it seems that Canon has "solved" both problems by gelding the G1X of any sort of viewfinder other than the LCD. I suppose that what they have done is a solution, it's just not the one most customers would have suggested. It's a shame, because how much better would have the reception been if it had a built-in EVF?

I placed a pre-order for the MR-14EX II so I would be at the head of the line, but would like to see more info on it before I decide whether or not to keep the order in place.

I'd like to see how the Mk2 ringlite  fares against the twin lite as opposed to the Mk1. Of course the lower price is attractive to me but is it still 'flat' ring lite lighting?

Lower price than the twin lite, you mean…the MkII ring light is $50 more than the original.  The new one is the same basic light, it'll give you the same flat 'documentary' lighting as the original.  If you want creative flexibility, get the MT-24EX, and better yet, get a pair of Wimberley F-2 brackets for it so you have more flexibility in where you put the heads.

#1 - G1X II this is a mirrorless camera I can get behind.  It is compact, and unencumbered by the larger lenses you would need on an ILC mirrorless of similar focal length.  Detachable EVF is a perfect touch.  I will likely buy one after the price drops a bit.

#2 - Ring flash, what size lens does this fit? I know the old one needed an adapter to fit on the 100L... will this?

Preordered The powershot sx700 hs

I already own the 280sx hs with a 20x optical zoom.
It's an amazing little camera with full manual controls.
I take it to music concerts and car races. I wouldn't be able to get the shots I get without the zoom.
And I can transfer the photos straight to my iPhone or
iPad.
Now at 30x... Whoa! Can't wait!

Cancelled my pre-order after learning more about this lens.  It might be worth it for others, but I shoot most of my macro in natural light (I must be a masochist ;)) and this isn't enough of an improvement to spend that kind of cash.
