Has anyone confirmed the 12 FPS on the 1DX?
« on: April 15, 2014, 11:31:24 AM »
I have put several thousand rounds on my 1DX. I have made extensive use of the 12 FPS. Short of recording the sound of the camera firing and examining the sound file, how do you confirm 12 FPS? Has anyone confirmed the 1DX captures 12 FPS through testing?

I have this feeling I am not getting it and was hoping to hear of the methods used to test the claim to see exactly what I am getting. I understand that AI Servo may slow it down, lighting situations, etc. I just want to confirm it on my own camera. Any help would be great.

Record audio or time a 2-sec burst.  I get 12 fps with appropriate settings (1/1000 s or faster, lens wide open, ISO 25600 or less).
EOS 1D X, EOS M, and lots of lenses

Take a picture of a stopwatch or other time piece with an accurate second hand?
I shoot with a Camera Obscura with an optical device attached that refracts and transmits light

  • Great gear is good. Good technique is better.

You could take a video of it with your 5D and slow it down to count the actuations

All great suggestions. I like the idea to photograph a stopwatch or very precise digital timing instrument.

I will report back.
