Waiting for a triple dip. Just like the 24-70 f/4. So I can get it for $1599. I sold my 24-70II serial 82 because of the clicking noise while zooming.

You sold a malfunctioning lens on the used market? Did you disclose it to the seller?

Shouldn't be more than $899.  In fact, I'd probably still buy the Tamron for $1,299 even if the Canon were $899.

It needs IS and thus this one needs to be discontinued.

$1800 is NOT a small amount. They couldn't sell it well enough that's why they "drop" the price which is still over priced.

He said clicking noise, not "malfunctioning".

Either way, I would hope he disclosed the 'clicking' if it was not evident to the seller is all I'm saying. This is not a nifty-fifty we are talking about here...

Not necessary ... it is the responsibility of the person who is buying the second hand item to check it thoroughly before he buys ... like you said "it is not a nifty-fifty we are talking about here".

Nice. I hope I am never on the buying end of one of your deals. I have bought my fair share of stuff on CL and  and have always done my due diligence, I'm not saying the buyer should bypass this step but the seller should disclose this type of thing is all I'm saying. It is called integrity. Check out the buy and sell at Fred Miranda sometime and you will see what I mean, close-ups of chips and usually full disclosure of any issues the seller is aware of.

I would still like to hear from the OP if they disclosed the 'clicking', just curious...

I sold over 2 dozen lenses, 9 DSLR cameras, 3 laptops and 3 smartphones to my colleagues in the office, who I see everyday for the past 7 years. But I also do not sell my used cameras & lenses to certain people who are easily paranoid about the smallest of things or those who assume the other person is in the wrong without even knowing the facts, coz they are the headache people ... so no worries, I would never sell anything to you. ;)

Its none of your business in how I sell my lenses! The lens is not malfunctioning. I just did not like it having a slight clicking sound when zooming in. It did not affect IQ. Buyers know of the clicking. Thats why he got it for a cheaper price.

$1800 is NOT a small amount. They couldn't sell it well enough that's why they "drop" the price which is still over priced.

When the lens was launched, the larger online vendors had trouble keeping it in stock.  Admittedly, that could have been due to supply, but regardless, they had no trouble selling the lens.  It's common for lens pricing to drop from the launch price after a few months or a couple of years.  I expect it's part of the strategy - sell at a premium to those who are willing to pay, then drop the price to attract additional buyers.  Or maybe Sigma and Tamron can't sell enough lenses, either, which is why their prices drop, sometimes more precipitously.  With the Canon lens, at least, the used market value is more likely to remain high than with a 3rd party lens.

It needs IS and thus this one needs to be discontinued.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. You are welcome to not buy the lens. In the 24-70mm focal range with the subjects I shoot with the lens, my shutter speeds are either fast enough to obviate the need for IS, or I'm shooting landscapes from a tripod.  A blanket statement that the lens needs to be discontinued because it lacks image stabilization is just plain silly.

Ignorance is bliss  ::) and you obviously do not own the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L II lens ... I have owned both the lenses (Canon 24-70 L II & the Tamron 24-70 VC) ... granted that Tamron is great value for money but the Canon is made of superior optics ... anyone who thinks that the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L II should be no more than $899 is extremely unintelligent.
