Shouldn't be more than $899.  In fact, I'd probably still buy the Tamron for $1,299 even if the Canon were $899.
It needs IS and thus this one needs to be discontinued.

-1....if I have to do it again, I will buy the Canon II over the Tammy

+1 to Dylan.
Opportunities to buy the 24-70 II for people like me occur once in a while (probably require aligning of stars or something like that)- when the need, the resources and the availability at a discounted price all happen at once.
These opportunities should not be missed.

Has anyone on this thread retired a 24-105 in favor of the 24-70 M.II and not looked back? I know the 24-70 Mk.II is amazing but I can't justify keeping both the 24-105 if I opted to pickup the 24-70. I tend to use the 24-70 for general walk-around, vacation type stuff.

Yes, I sold my 24-105 a while after getting the 24-70 II since I really wasn't using the former.  I was fortunate that I sold it shortly before the kit lens price dropped $200-300, taking the used lens price down with it.  I have no regrets.

How do you use your 24-70 (vacation, etc)? I know you have a few lenses to choose from in your kit.

For almost everything...  It's the lens I leave on when the camera is in the closet, my usual walkaround lens, portraits, travel and landscapes, etc.  Basically, if I'm not shooting something where I know I'll need another lens, the 24-70 II is on the camera, and if not it's usually in the bag.

Has anyone who has used the previous version of the 24-70, find the smaller hood on the Mark II better?

That deep hood, coupled with the reverse zoom mechanism of the original 24-70/2.8L, was a nice feature - it meant that the hood was effective throughout the focal range.  The standard zoom mechanism and shallow hood of the current version mean that, like most lenses, the hood is really only effective at reducing flare at the wide end of the zoom range.

It's nice, until you have to pack the lens away with the hood reversed, then it's not that nice.

Don't they repeat the exact same sale with rebates before Christmas?
Anyone remember for sure? I have two days to get it or maybe I'll just wait IF they'll go down as much before Christmas and get it then...

Adorama had a great deal a couple of days ago for $ 1700 AR.
FYI, CPW says Canon will enforce MAP more strictly from April and resellers might not be able to offer as great deals as before.
