Given the lack of discount on the 85mm f/1.2L, looks like I will be waiting until this winter to pick one up...

Yea why is that?  I rarely see any good deal (deeper discounts) s on the 85 1.2.

I picked up the 24-70 II.  It is interesting that you have to read the rebate carefully.  You have to pre-submit online and enter the serial number and then print out a form to submit with the SKU barcode from the end of the box.  They insist you cut the label off attached to the cardboard.

Picked up a 24 f/1.4L II for landscapes. Arrived today. I will check the focus tomorrow and head out to shoot some pics.  I wish I would have had it yesterday, lots of lightning last night.

If you look at the canon price watch history, generally at the end of the year at least one store will double-dip the 85L with a rebate bringing it down around $150 less than it costs now with the rebates.

You don't have to pre-submit online, that is just an option that makes it easier.

But, you do have to cut out the UPC on the box making a hole in the side of the box.  This is done to prevent you from submitting for the rebate (which will get you the rebate money) then returning the lens.  By cutting a hole in the box you can't return it.

It makes sense if you think about it, as I am sure there would be people scamming the system if they could.

There were indeed sellers on ebay after the last rebates offering Canon gear with cutout UPC code.
