5D Mark II & 60D Shortages
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:33:51 AM »
New Cameras? No, there are no direct replacements coming soon.

The issue with shortages is to do with the floods in Thailand and parts needed to manufacture the cameras. Nikon is having the same troubles and the D7000 is experiencing the same issues.

I haven’t heard if any other Canon DSLR is affected.

For what it's worth I ordered a 5d2 off of adorama lately and they shipped it the same day.... Cant speak for other places...
Canon 5d III, Canon 24-105L, Canon 17-40L, Canon 70-200 F4L, Canon 100L 2.8, 430EX 2's and a lot of bumps along the road to get to where I am.

Costco has been selling the 60D's like there is no tomorrow. A friend that works there said they had 50 in stock and sold them ALL in one weekend! For a while it said 'pending', meaning 'backorder' but now all it says is 'no longer available'.
According to him they (Costco) is the largest seller of the 60D (kit with 18-200 for $1.249,99) world wide.
He was also told that they have to attend mandatory 'all day' training on a new camera on November 23. A first in the 15 years he has worked there. For the 60D they had to 'watch a video'. His 'hunch' in they will have the 5DMII for Christmas so Canon can 'clear inventory'.

See the problem?  If there is a problem in the manufacturing supply chain, there is not much inventory to be cleared.  However, those manufacturing issues will get solved, and it might point to Canon wanting to milk the most profit they can from the 5DII for another year, before a 5DIII comes out next Fall.

Or it might just be a full day training on a new dSLR...from someone other than Canon.

what ? my 5d2 have parts build from thailand? I am not happy about this, i want japanese parts and camera assemble in Japan only.

if i want crappy thailand parts, i would buy the EF-S camera instead.
